Downhill Mountain Bike Restoration | Restoring this Vintage Norco on a Budget Part 1

bike restoration
Join me in this thrilling bike restoration journey as I take on the challenge of reviving a vintage 2008 Norco Atomik downhill bike. During the height of the COVID pandemic, I stumbled upon this gem being sold locally, and despite its worn condition, I couldn't resist the opportunity to make it shine again. Bikes were scarce, and this find was a diamond in the rough.

Cool resto. There is a special magic that only DH bikes possess. I'm glad you found that magic.

That bike is built like a tank . Its crazy how far bike frames have come in such a short time. Nice job replacing those bearings.

Small hack for installing new bearings, toss em in the freezer for a bit before you go to press em in. I am a massive fan of older DH bikes and love seeing old war horses getting some love with the intent to be ridden again!

Ive got the SIX3 and building it up with bits and pieces I've sourced off other bikes - selling the other bits i dont use to recoup money spent. Now bought myself a 06 Torrent and mixing and matching parts and its working out for me prett well. Two bikes that have cost me $30 to date.... 😂

Haha. That's awesome! I love when you can do up a bike for next to nothing. Solid bikes too.

I have a very similar bike to this I’ve done a 2008 reimagined kinda theme on. It’s a 2008 ironhorse freeride bike, over several years sourcing different wild parts it’s almost done soon. Maybe snowshoe this year, I live in WV.

The geo on that bike looks scary. You probably better off with one of your bigger full suspension bikes at the bike park than that thing, but it does make for good content.

I used to ride this type of geometry and I didn't die, even worse 10 yrs prior I had a GT hardtail with the geo of a gravel bike and I was entering DH events locally... We didn't "Bender" gaps but it was ruff still...

@@LaurentiusTriarius just because you didn't die doesn't negate the fact that his modern Enduro or even all mountain bike will be safer and faster than this bike. I have been there too. I went from a 68 hta bike to my current 62 hta hardtail and dh bike. My bikes went from 68, 67, 65, 64, 63 to finally 62.

I bought that exact bike new for christmas 2007, absolutely loved it. I did have some nicer parts on my Norco DH team 2004 that I swapped out. Marzocchi 888 and better shock (can't remember exact one) and juicy 7's I would love to have it back for a weekend, just to see...
