Just because you can borrow X amount of money though, does not mean you should be buying a car that expensive. Financial security and building wealth should remain the priorities and if you cannot afford to buy a car outright, reconsider the purchase altogether. So often people justify the purchase as a NEED when it’s really not, or they buy a way more expensive car than they need just because they can. This leads to an overflow of debt, a lowered or complete dissipation of financial security and net worth, as well as a major setback in building wealth. If you cannot buy it outright (especially if you already have other debt barring a mortgage) then thoroughly evaluate the NEED for the car, your ability to not only make the payments but continue to smash your financial goals in the process without setting yourself back and seriously reconsider the purchase entirely if it does not fit within your budget. Debt is a killer. Don’t take it lightly.

This method is the conventual way to buy a car, I’ve been doing this way for the last 40 yrs. I’m now shopping for a car, the total price is 58.000 . I was thinking of putting down 18k, and some finance folks recommend a new concept to put the least amount of cash in the down payment cause there is a risk of losing that payment by the insurance company if you total the car or had it stolen. Yes, you will be paying more finance charge at the end, but they say, you’ll avoid the risk and secondly if you invest the 18k you can earn some interest to offset the finance interest. Now, I’m reading some more on this concept, any thoughts on this. Nice vid. Thanks

I have a video going a bit more in depth on this, you and I are on the same page with our thinking. In your case, $58,000 4% int 60 months roughly $$4,500 interest. Put $18,000 down, $40,000 4% interest 60 months. Interest is roughly $3,125. Consider if it is worth parting with $18,000 to save $1,400 interest?

I cannot agree with the principal idea that a down payment shows seriousness of the buyer. It would seem to me a person of modern-day who has purchased cars for over 40 years would be considered a serious body versus someone very young who made want to buy but may not have the resource and it's just simply looking and wanting to test drive cars
