@@classycassi20 Well, Fred was a couple of decades older than the guys, so he was already doing plenty before they came along. He was a star on Broadway in the 20s while they were still kids. Also, their style of dance combined tap with acrobatics, and that was never really Fred's thing. The Wikipedia article on Fred says he and his sister toured in vaudeville with Bill Bojangles Robinson and that Fred was influenced by his tap routines, and those of Bubbles from Buck and Bubbles....that might be who you're thinking of. Fred did say that the Nicholas Brother's number "Jump and Jive" was the greatest dance number ever filmed.

This is incredible but everytime people watch videos of great dancers they discredit michael jackson . MJ didn't invent dancing, and his fans don't think he was the only great dancer there ever was. The nicholas brothers were beyond phenomenal they were gods of the dancefloor , but so was MJ and James Brown and Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and Sammy Davis Jr. and Bojangles. There are SO many legendary dancers. People shouldn't try to consider anyone THE greatest. They're all special.

It wasn’t so much tap, as their own unique style.
