Ikr! Descendants is great but the rest of the songs were more upbeat than this and looking into a more jokey side of telling a story whereas this one was so much more mature. But it fits Mal’s character arc so well. Starting as a goofy and more selfish character and starting to learn about love and being afraid to lose it.

I can’t believe that Descendants is already 6 years old. I remember being 11 and watching the movie in 2016 and absolutely loving it. Now here i am at 16 re-listening to my favorite descendants songs. Thank you Disney and everyone for this beautiful series.

This song really speaks to me. I think there is a deeper meaning to this song. It could be that you can't decide who you want to be as a person. Or it could be that you feel torn between gaining your parents' approval and what you really want. Or maybe it could be that you are unhappy and secretly want something better but can't decide if it is the right thing to do.

As an overthinker and an indesicive person, I love this song because it also speaks to me. Here's my reasoning based on the first few verses that no one asked for. "A million thoughts in my head" Always that part of me wondering if I made the right choice. "Should I let my heart keep listening" I usually use logic to think out things and make choices but sometimes my heart disagrees or feels weird and it makes me anxious. Should I let my feelings affect me that much if it will end up making me feel anxious? "'Cause up 'til now I've walked the line" I've always used logic as the thing to make important decisions and always play it safe. "Nothing lost but something missing" I've played it safe but maybe by playing it safe, I've missed out on something. "I can't decide" I can't decide. "What's wrong, what's right" My heart or reason? "Which way should I go" I don't know what to do but I'll lean towards reason because it's the safest. I know what will happen if I use reason and I don't understand what my heart is telling me. "If only I knew what my heart was telling me" If I could understand these feelings it could help me make the right choices. But what if I've already messed up? "Don't know what I'm feeling" Is it fear? A gut instinct? I'm lost. "Is this just a dream?" Sometimes good comes from ignoring my heart or at least it seems like it. By not doing what my heart told me to do, I'm ignoring the problem and am in bliss. But not for long. "If only I could read the signs in front of me" I could make choices much easier and I could make the RIGHT choices. "I could find the way to who I'm meant to be" I could've expressed my self and helped boost my confidence by doing this or trying this. If I went with my heart, I could've discovered what I'm good at and what my purpose is. But what if I've lost the opportunity already?

I feel like the last verse of “if only’s” at the end are the best with his voice harmonizing in the background🎶🎶. It’s so pretty!!✨✨

This song is where Mal realizes she truly loves Ben. The line "will you still be with me when the magic's all run out?" expresses that. I felt it too- sometimes that "magic" is love/interest and we never want it to run out :(
