    No matter how hard they try, they'll never design or build a more beautiful aircraft than the DC-3 / C-47. That timeless profile is by far the prettiest thing that ever flew. Thanks for the video.

    You could not have made a more correct statement regarding the DC-3/C-47. Indeed a beautiful aircraft & combined with the sound that emanates from those twin P/W 1830/s you have everything you need from an aircraft perspective!! Wow & wow again!! Yes a timeless profile for sure as it never really looks dated. It's just got that awesome aspect that was so obviously built-into it from the very begining!!

    Nothing with a piston engine on it is safe by today's standards. Also DC-3 is pretty demanding to handle at takeoffs and landings.

    Maravillosos. .Jajaja

    This pilot was obviously NOT a real tailwheel pilot. I flew the DC-3 for 1,000 hours in the 1970s and the technique for landing was to land a little tail low, then the instant the main wheels touched, you would add forward (nose down) elevator and raise the flaps to prevent what you see this guy do in the video.

    The problem with that landing was caused by the pilot trying to three point it. While the DC-3 was designed to be landed tail low, it was not designed for a full stall three point landing. In this position the wing blanks the rudder and there is no directional control other than brakes. You may have heard the squeak and seen the puff of smoke as the plane skidded to the left after the bounce.

    The pilot was landing too fast for a three pointer and wrong attitude for a wheeler. And yes I have a few thousand hours in command of "3's".

  • @outwiththem

    @outwiththem

    @@jamesleathers5488 - When light load, they want to float a lot those 3's. I used to bring them at 90-95 mph with some power on an touch down at piper aztec speeds.. A bit too fast over that and you have to do a wheel landing and bounce or wait a while to slow down. 100 feet wide wings did that.

    As a mecanic y would have kicked that pilots ass on 2,40.... gee.... 12 blades at minimum before contact! risk of broken liners or bend rods iff oil is collected above the lower pistons... ...

  • @dibaldgyfm9933

    @dibaldgyfm9933

    4 жыл бұрын

    When starting the engine it must be turned around many times ("12 blades") before any gas and ignition, because it is a radial where there are cylinders, "upwards-down" below the camshaft where oil can run down and hinder or actually block the cylinder movement. (So much I have gathered from other videos, especially "Plane Savers", Mikey McBryan, Buffalo Air.
