I have added 70 native plants to my yard since winter storm Uri. Every time, I look in my backyard now, I see butterflies, birds, dragonflies and frogs. I was shocked at how quick the changes happened.

I didn't really care about native plants until I read Nature's Best Hope. Doug Tallamy completely changed my gardening philosophy. I am now in the process of converting my garden to insect-friendly, native plantings, and I'm loving it. It was fascinating to see so many interesting insect species show up just in the first year! 🐝❤🌻

Doug Tallamy's session was fabulous. He is an excellent presenter, and I especially appreciated the suggestions he provided to help individuals improve their landscape by encouraging the development of the ecosystem services provided by insects, plants, animals etc.

Thank you for this. Doug has been changing lives and he really changed mine. I stopped mowing thanks to him, shut off outside lights and started replacing non-native with native plants. This message is nothing short of a miracle we all create together.

Great video. Most important takeaway is we as individuals are not helpless but can make a difference in our environment, not waiting on government or corporations to do something.

I live one county west of Doug in Lancaster, PA. Here we no longer can build houses on huge tracts of land. There is a push on here for planting Native Plants. We also have the largest program in in the state for Farmland Preservation, probably not a good thing if following Doug's advice. Great presentation. Thank you.

I'm curious to know if PA's Farmland Preservation program prohibits single family residences on large tracts of land or high density development. Over the past decade or so, my county has been in the process of developing new districts/zoning with the biggest changes planned for those of us currently designated as Rural. In considering incorporating several different options to hopefully produce some means of financial support primarily with native edible and medicinal plants, I learned the final version was voted in by councilmembers in November 2021 and will go into effect in May 2022, dividing the current Rural zone into Agricultural and Homestead properties. While there are many excellent components of the plan that encourage the use of native plants, buffer zones, as well as storm water capture and management, we aren't certain of the new designation of our land because the updated map hasn't been released. The plan defines Agricultural tracts by size and the pursuit of "bona fide" agricultural uses. Since there are some agricultural uses that are considered "accessory" to the residential use of the Homestead properties, I believe the terms of "large scale, mass produced, and factory farming" would be a more accurate description. Unfortunately, there are components of the plan that will place smaller farmers at a disadvantage which I find very disappointing both personally and collectively.

Go Pam! I’m in the Edgewater neighborhood and have a small section of yard where I’ve planted natives… still expanding it (as well as a small food garden). Get orioles, hummingbirds, chickadees, finches, nuthatches, several species of woodpeckers, some native sparrows, juncos, even a few warblers and thrushes during migration season!

Thank you for your very wise and passionate plea to support nature. You practical approach is what has led me to think further about the native plants and insects. I feel the obligation to support plant and insects within my area of control. Appreciate your talks and will look for your book.

Doug the pond behind our house just had the natives and invasives all mowed down by the city. One of the species was leadplant and button bush. What will be the result? Will the invasives take over? I’m having city representatives come over so I can talk to them. What should I be telling them?
