Tactical hammer? Kali utilizes weapons based on its inherent attributes. Here, Kuya Doug Marcaida demonstrates some fun ways to impact, control and devastate attackers using a tool found in almost every household.

"the control is right into the throat, that sucks." love this channel.
''you can hammer out his teeth and hammer him down. Lots of fun.'' I love you hahaha

another amazing hilarous quote "The claw is in right into the throat. That sucks." xD
Bam bam fantastic name! Love his attitude to his art. Using everyday tools and items as weapons is just fantastic. You don't see much of that anymore :(
I used to have no appreciation for Kali. The simplicity of other forms of self-defence techniques left me questioning why this would be useful. Hours of Doug Marcaida footage later and I'm really starting to see why this works so well.

it's like judo. There are a lot of different techniques and even more variations, but you don't need to know and use them all. Just the ones you need.

There definitely seems to be value in it. But it needs to be incorporated with other things in mind, like how you will apply it in hard sparing or an actual fight. Otherwise it's just like tai chee or something more more art than martial.
Forget knives, now I wanna carry a hammer. XD
As a carpenter I approve of this
I just wish I lived closer to his gym. in high school my buddies and I used to just have technique building sparring days with whatever weapons of opportunity we could find wherever we were training. I keep getting brought back more and more with the videos. thanks Doug.
Exactly right. This is ONE video---wait until you the video of Doug using a cell phone car-charger. Weapons of opportunity are everywhere---this is merely to illustrate the 2 attributes highlighted - curvature and impact.
Genius Broz....Gave me even further insight into discovering improvised weapons around me everywhere. Now I have begun to play about with various grips and holds at various points on any given improvised weapon, and using Kali/Arnis/Eskrima principles and concepts, ( My favourite is a recent hickory walking stick with a teardrop design, for those who understand what that means in a walking stick, with a brass, hammer-style head, or handle on it....It is an old antique shillelagh, more or less, and from a bygone era, really, and it's effectiveness as a/ (an already deployed) weapon of self defence cannot possibly be overstated. It is truly astounding. I train with it for actual combat : melee style, both two handed and one handed, sometimes doubling up with a solid homemade, hard rubber mallet or other various weapons alongside. All the same, I also just love to use the Kali/Eskrima sticks altogether. They are SO damn fast that they are like light sabers swiftly cutting through in a blurr of blinding speed, and therefore, with loads of impact.....Their speed and manoeuvrability make them extremely hard for someone to defend against, or successfully attack, without being hit or blocked....
I love this, because that tiny hammer is something not many people would consider a weapon, which makes it ideal for self defense. No cop will give you a hard time for having one.
I love watching and learning from Doug. The very traditional ideas of defense and weapons utilized during defense have largely been lost in many martial arts, and in America the concepts were hardly known. When training in Japan, I noticed the older teachers still have the concept of viewing everything around you as a tool, a weapon, and incorporate it into training. To see how each item is similar or different in application. And when in the Philippines, I noticed this concept is still present, it has never left the teachings. Sad too see however, that in PI the study of FMA is so much lower than the study of other international styles. Doug, and FT, keep up the good work!
Mabuhay Po Kayo!!! Filipino Martial Arts is not Lost but very much Alive. Thank You.
I am hooked on Funker Tactical videos. First Zero, now this guy. I am looking forward to more of these "weapons of opportunity" videos.
Neat techniques, especially useful for those countries who banned carrying a knife as daily tools. Hammer could be very useful indeed, Kudos Mr. Marcaida
Great demo! Thank you Doug.
Now that's what you call, a Hammerfist.
Wish I could learn Kali but nobody teaches it
Love the tac hammer video...pretty interesting
I would never look at a hammer the same again. thank you for the knowledge.
Very nice work, must get myself a Bam Bam.More please.
its really amazing what people can learn on the Discovery Chanel. What?. Truth is I wish I lived closer. You have a gift with not just your knowledge, but also in the way you share that knowledge.
Why is it that right as I get the idea for doing a improvised weapon video with a hammer, Funker does one. Just my luck! Haha!
Doug is one guy I don't want to get in a fight with. What a boss
A wonderful demonstration on taking kali concepts and theory and thinking outside the box. I studied inosanto lacoste kali, loved it, currently trying to find someone in birmingham, al area.
Gracias maestro por tus notas tan sabias.
I am curious as to the brand and style of the hammer used in the video.. I have looked around and I can't find one that is all metal. Most are polymer handles and do not have metal throughout the handle. Could you possibly let me know or give a link to the hammer?
Hey guys, new here. I just got the bi-pod for my hammer.
Fantastic.

I really appreciate these tips
great stuff
Doug Marcaida is such a skilled legend!
Please respond, camera man! I would dearly like to know your name. My reason being the initial shot of this video: even when Doug had you in an uncomfortable (and daresay I) and painful grip you manage to keep the camera centred. Its like being able to keep your rifle accurately aimed while being shot at, and I would like to congratulate you! :D Thanks to Doug for allowing his experience to be documented and the (as of now) unknown cameraman who was willing to document it.
Great! You just added a unexpected defense weapon to my arsonal thanks
i think i have a new favorite!
Awesome video, please deliver more weapons of opportunity
more of this Please!
Awesome!
Ur opinion pls on double knife or double hammer method? Makes me wonder why not deploy a weapon in each hand TY
will do, thanks!
So clean
Man, On that last seen the camera work was fantastic XD seemed like a fight seen in a movie :3
So just out of curiosity, how does Eskrima address kicks and foot-based attacks? I'd assume that it'd be more about stomps and low kicks to complement their close range handwork, but my martial experience is fairly limited, so I might have that wrong. Just wondered since my friend does Eskrima and I was considering picking it up since it seems like a very fast and flexible martial art. :)
I WANT MORE FROM THIS MAN
awesome, never thought of that
more like this!!!
Awesome
Haha holy cow, that last grip that protects the inside of your arm is genius.
This is helpful :)
Really cool.
Dude, Doug...I totally have a man crush on you!

Nigga, you gai. You have a crush on everybody that is competent, which leads to your foot being flat.
I practice various forms of CQB but don't have any to practice who is a lefty as primary strength and stance. Is there any advice you can give? Thanks lads
Doug, you got my respect already back when I watched the karambit, stick and baseball cap ... but now! This one put all my knives to waste! LOL ! And with this tool, I don't have to worry about cops pulling me off and finding a Bam Bam in my car.
Please make more videos of hammer defence
love this dude and the tactical ewok... i would politely ask for more karambit with that raging tiger dude
with my luck I forget my hammer.. get attack, now I gotta run around googling on my phone "nearest hardware store"
Hi I was wondering if there are any Kali instructors in the state of Oklahoma? Help me out Funker?
Very Cool
I personally love the idea of weapons of opportunity. It uses a very realistic and pragmatic mindset. I find myself looking around and noticing things that I could use as weapons...
I love the kapak kecil. It has so many functions, like the karambit but with hooking and straight forward striking blade as well as stabbing with the handle, ice pick position.
Makes me want to learn more.
What kind of model should I use
Hammer time!
WOW! JUST! WOW!!!
Anyone know if there is a Kali instructor in NC? Interested and I think this is really cool.
I too have studied the deadly martial art of the hammer for fifteen years. I now carry two for akimbo-style use and I always have a backup hammer in my sock. Once I avoided a mugging by pulling out my hammers and springing into my wide martial-hammer stance when this guy asked if I had a 'spare' cigarette. I chased him down the street but couldnt catch him only because I had two backup hammers that day and it slowed me down. My primary hammers are twin Craftsman ckaws that I got nickel plate
after This vid i went to get my BAMBAM! and showed it to my friends. well they dont want to talk to me anymore and they have Gipps all over there Hands.
I love this Martial Art
Nice
Master.
That first "grip" seems like a fantastic way to rip off the first knuckle of your thumb.
This guy gives me goosebumps
God vid !
If you look around a normal room, and don't see at least three things that can be used as a weapon, you likely missed more than six, lol. Keep this series going..
This guy is a beast.
It's going to take a lot of practice & timing to be able to implement these techniques effectively against a full speed opponent . I'm sure it could work, but depending on that small curvature to draw momentum or direct force is going to be a fight with a resisting opponent. Most of these techniques could be also applied to the weapon known as a "Rock in my Hand". Which still is Kali.
I'm a magician and it's facisnating how these two art forms are so alike by taking the uses of a object and applying them big doug fan by the way.
Interesting.
Funniest shit I've read in a long time! Thank you!
In next episode: "How to kill with Tea Cup"
Can I get the name of the instrumental in the first half of the video?
Can you please make a video with spoons?
What brand of stubby hammer is that?
I first found Doug on Forged in Fire...love how he says "This...will kill..." with that fucking smile of his
Remind me of that fight scene in The Raid 2, the hammer girl 🙆
Product name of the hammer that instructor is using, What is?
That's a lovely hammer
hammer and karambit, perfect weapons of choice for the KGB :)
More improvised weaponry. This is fantastic
Dude kali is so flexible
Wow
make more close combat please
lol this video gives a whole new meaning to the term "hammer fist"
top channel, top videos, super nice tips and tricks.
Loaded fist I like it!
Understand the attributes, understand the repercussion for them and yourself.
Bam Bam! Is he the one who teach "Old Boy" main character playing Bam Bam? madness, if ma neighbour know this, he will come collecting my debt bringing Bam Bam
What can I say!?... F**king Beautiful
Gotta start buying myself a mini hammer!
a great idea as a carry weapon under your shirt when a no weapons allowed sign is displayed
