Growing up just north of Denver, Colorado we caught Sunfish and Bluegill smaller than a dollar bill and trout that as an adult we called fish sticks. Fishing ultralight tackle made it fun. When I was in my twenties and a much better fisherman I caught bass up to 5 pounds and trout up to 9 pounds, ( there was a good amount of luck involved ), on 4 pound test tackle. It didn’t matter how big the fish unless we were keeping it to eat.

On those cold crisp mornings John, any species is fun to catch. And it warms you up in the process.

I John, I really appreciate the effort that you put into your KZread channel. Some of my favorite days fishing have been on some of the small streams and creeks here in Tennessee. Depending on the season and the weather, I tend t.o target different species of fish. I love crappie. The hunt for bass is a lot of fun. But, over the past several years I’ve really gotten into fishing the small streams for trout. I like to go ultralight with tiny lures and thin line. Bass man over there catching em all like Pokémon over there recently while I was bass fishing i caught a mega trout on some new bait i tried from Berkley here where I live there just smallmouth, stripers and perch so it helps watching this!!

That was a real good day lol my video(s) will be out later this month. I think we need a ice rod video at Appalachia soon 😉😉

You are a great role model for my youngest son who is 16, he loves to fish and loves his church he don’t miss a Sunday it’s the way I was raised also. I’m so glad I found you. I’m Local here in Charleston this is my favorite place to fish. Never fails I always catch some. My pb is 5 pounds here but I’ve seen 11 pound largemouth and I’ve caught catfish carp drum white bass crappie bluegill war mouths and gar there’s a lot there

The trout magnet man would be proud lol. I would much rather catch all of those than one big one. I love catching fish that size on an ultralight with 4 lb test. 👊👍

2lb is half as strong. But twice the fun than 4lb. Threw my ice reel on my ultra light in the spring. Doesn't work well on windy days though.

In the time you filmed this video. Someone went through a small fortune's worth of lead lol. I'm a little jealous. That crappie bite was on fire. Hard to be mad at the size when you're catching that many.

Trout magnets are one of my favorite lures but they don't seem to work that good for me when it is cold. Of course I really struggle to catch fish at all when it gets cold to be honest.

What rod are you casting with with what weight line if you don't mind me asking?

I haven't got to go fishing with this new job in so long I probably forgot how 😒

I had to downsize to a little pheasant tail Nymph to catch a fish on a little pond in the Flordia panhandle. Couldn't even get a follow on something larger.

I've caught a 6 inch largemouth bass out of a creek on a white trout magnet before

John. How do you set up the double TM rig? Do you connect the upper to the lower from the bottom bend of the Upper hook to the eye of the second, as we do in fly fishing? Or, some other way? Do you repeat the same type of jig with the same color plastic grub for both? Thanks

Get alot of slack in your line, do a palomar knot through the first jighook, and you should have a bunch of line left on the tail end, then do another palomar (or your other favorite knot doesnt matter) at the end.

Just a heads up , those tiny fish have very fragile jaws so be careful holding them by the lips like we do the big ones , if you break their jaw without realizing it they die later on

About time you used the trout magnet again instead of shilling for the Bobby garlands. You know that the Bobby garlands barely catch anything , but since they pay you, you can’t use the trout magnets. But since you got skunked out last video in that small creek, you knew it was time to bring out a good lure again
