Double storey extension with squint bricks video 1. Drains and concrete slab

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Started a new extension with garage. Someone put the foundations in and left the job. They had left the manhole in the foundations so we moved them out and stitched the foundation together, we also renewed the old drains and did the concrete oversite, prepping it and laying the concrete.

At 8.30, if that's the only pipe joining that manhole. It should connect at the rear lower main channel, and not on that 45 upper channel. It provides through flow. The other 45 channel risks build up of foul materials

Yes that's true, however another pipe is coming into the chamber see the hole for it at 7:07. Hope that sheds light on it we only featured this part!

Looking good although would a y branch within the footprint of the extension not have been enough instead of an inspection chamber with all internal 4 inch pipe having access points for rodding and a rodding point outwith the extension at the back? Also would the inspection chamber at the front not have been better positioned where the long radius 90 was? Maybe the drainage was specified in the drawing but was just curious

Good points, however we have to follow the spec and advisory notes on the drawing or they won't pass them!

How do price for the amount of work underground? I get scared off from these sort of jobs just because of the amount of unknown drainage works. Is there some sort of formula or rule of thumb you use?

Always put some mesh in a slab that is to be trafficked.

Just interested in a clearing some things up for my piece of mind. Is the main channel of the higher inspection chamber being used? it isn't clear on the video. Having read the comments I still don't see the need for the long radius 90 instead of placing a new inspection chamber there. Using hard PIR board to protect the pipe passing through the foundation will still transfer load onto the pipe. If you put a straight pipe joint either side of the concrete within 150mm it would act as a rocker pipe and help with any deflection. Don't get me wrong your pipework shouldn't block and we've all done bits that are not 100% but I don't put it on you tube.

  • @foundationgood123

Remember this has been done according to regs and inspected and approved. I wouldn’t say it was bits not a 100% as some one might say what you’re suggesting isn’t 100%!! However This in my opinion and the local building control was happy that it was sufficient for this build. Note, it wasn’t okay as it was and had to be changed and there’s no real load over the pipe as it was a garage door opening. Hope that helps

@@foundationgood123 Hi I don't think I suggested something that wasn't correct I don't think I explained that I wouldn't just have put the rocker pipe in I would have used a piece of 225 pipe supported on the new shuttering to give clearance all around the new pipe my apologies for not explaining that. When I do work for Wessex Water on adopted pipework to dwellings they would not let that pass. Thats also why I asked about the main run being used on the chamber not just branches. Lots of building inspectors don't know enough about drains anyway.

Since the sewer line is beneath the foundation, what happens if there is an obstriction in the sewer?

there's two rodding access points as we show in the video, one at the top and one at the bottom so clearing any blockage will be relatively easy. NOTE a lot of houses have drains running through their buildings. I hope this helps

Wrong fitting a pipe inside that mate the terracotta colour is below ground drainage.. not gonna do no harm but it’s an identifying colour
