There's a saying in Korea: "Always trust Taeyeon" What I think it means to me is simply this....... if Taeyeon puts her name on it you can expect quality. No other kpop soloist can match her diverse catalog of songs. She slays every concept and style. Legend.

Right, she's experimental (she seems to TRY anything at least once) and she is a perfectionist. If you find it on the internet and it was MEANT to be published, it is Golden. Obviously, leaked audio, leaked video and demos don't count because they are not fully fleshed-out finished products, they are works-in-progress and not meant to be published. But even some of those incomplete, unfinished, unpolished demos beat a lot of other vocalists' material. She's truly one of The Greats. :)

Fun Fact : Taeyeon said Fine is one of her hardest song to sing

I think knowing Taeyeon's history makes listening to Fine that much more emotional. A friend who was dear to her passed away, and we also can't forget everything that happened when she dated EXO's Baekhyun. They both got so much hate, but Taeyeon in particular faced a huge brunt of the hate because Baekhyun was still very new in the industry and she's older than him by a few years too. All the hate really hurt her at the time and I still remember when she broke down in tears at the airport in front of fans. It was heartbreaking to see and can't have been easy for either of them. They broke up soon after the news came out. Not to mention her father passing away ON her birthday. I know this happened much later after Fine came out, but knowing how much she struggled, knowing that this is but a fraction of what she went through makes me so sad.

There is a famous Korean producer who said "Taeyeon sings like a woman who's been divorced seven times." She's one of the few vocalists who can reduce me to tears in a regular basis. I'm paraphrasing here, but the phone conversation at the beginning of fine goes something along the lines of "HI, how are you doing? I'm just at the store now... I colored my hair yesterday too. Oh, really?. Uh... no reason. I'm not really sure why I called you. Okay.... bye."

Absolutely God-level vocals, yes. This is the voice that got me into K-Pop in the first place. I never took K-Pop seriously until 2015. Taeyeon dragged me down the rabbit hole and now I could not thank her enough for that. There were originally nine members in Girls Generation. One of them left just a few weeks before a big concert. The other eight ladies were all heartbroken and there was a certain well-known song of theirs that they performed for the first time live without their missing member. They left an empty spot open on the stage where the missing member would have been standing. They didn't even bother with the normal choreo for the song and they slowed it to a ballad for this performance. All of the eight ladies had problems singing the song because they were trying not to cry while they were at it (the fans completely understood. Not a dry eye in the house). Taeyeon managed the best out of all of them, SOMEHOW managing to hit all of her big and high notes. People who were either not fans at all or just did not know anything about Taeyeon (or especially her haters) thought she was a completely emotionless monster. She caught hell for it, totally undeserved of course. What they did not see (or they purposely chose to ignore in their narrative) was all the behind-the-scenes stuff from before and after that concert, where Taeyeon was just as emotional as everybody else in the group. Fine might just be a shout-out to the missing member (but yes it also works as a break-up song).

I know you are a hard rock fan and would love to see you check out this amazing vocalist slay that concept out of nowhere. Also Fine is one of my all-time favorite Kpop songs ever. I'm so glad to see it get some love in 2022. I've heard that Taeyeon's breakdown in that MV was not scripted and she asked them to keep it in the video.

you asked about what she says on the phone call at the beginning of fine, and she's basically on the phone with someone, presumably her ex, and she asks "what did you do yesterday?" and proceeds to talk about how she had read a bit but felt like there was a lot of time left in the day, like she was missing something. there's an abrupt cut and she just says "no-" with a stuffed nose, which leaves a bit of interpretation as to what the ex may have said as a response to her on the other end of the line. then she kinda just goes "i don't even know why i'm talking to you", sighs and finishes with an "okay/i get it" followed by a "be well/have a good life/take care" my personal interpretation of this is that this phone call maybe happened in the close days after the breakup, which would explain why she has a stuffy nose from crying and why, when she wants to talk to someone about her day, the first person that comes to her mind is still him. also would explain her frustration (as she says herself, "like a fool") with "i don't know why i'm talking to you", as if she wants to let go but still can't help but hold on because them together had been all she had ever known so far. also, the scene in which there's the director's cut is supposed to be the filming of this music video itself, as we see her lip-syncing to the lyrics before the cut happens and there's other scenes of her in the studio that are used for the mv later on. it was as if to say that her singing about her last moment with him (as seen by the lyrics) still brought too many memories, it was still too fresh (at least in her heart). it's almost a statement to how hard it must have been for her to film this music video/sing this song/write these lyrics you will bawl your eyes out at fine live. it is the most goosebump-y experience hahah, highly recommend the 'S concert in Seoul version, as she does it acapella

@@DGReacts yeah.. it is very very rare for Taeyeon to cry in a public setting Taeyeon = calm in Korean and people who know her said that she's exactly like her name so when this happened the director knew its something.. she also said it was a hard time for her making this album.. she took medication (I forgot what) it was her 1st full album and I guess the pressure was too much being that people were waiting since she hit it big with her osts circa 2008 and with things happening in her life..
