Technically people refer to them as "Black Panthers" but there's actually no such species, they're just jaguars or leopards with black pigment.

It seems to me that all the bonus game triggers that land short of the number needed,like dropping 5 out of 6 fireballs, then on the next spin drop the missing ball, just to annoy or tease.

actually jaguars or leopards with black pigment are called black panthers but there's no such species as a panther. They likely used the name black panther to reference the genus that leopards and jaguars belong to which is called panthera.
