Amazing man! As a low brass player, this video really does inspire me, and as a result I have been working on my range on all instruments to the point of “weird notes”, and I’m pretty sure it was because of this video! Needless to say, you are like tuba jesus and probably a really great person but thanks for this video!

I find whenever I'm playing super loud I get super low in the mouthpiece and really opening my mouth.

Me: It can’t go any lower Tuba:Hold my mouth piece

That's an insane range there in both directions. I could barely hear the low one though I find it amazing you pulled off that high note as it's high by trumpet standards.

You've just played the highest note I've ever managed to get out of my trombone on a tuba! Good job.

Two questions : can you play pedal tones effectively with a mute in? How quiet can you get a pedal D, for example?

Luis Andrei Cobo I don't have a mute, and when being around One I've never tried, and I can hit regular pedal D super loud, soft, and medium volume. I can play the double pedal D, but pretty soft. Hope this answers your questions.

As a trumpet player I can’t even play as high as this dude

That high note is so high, that it is outside the so-called "standard" range of the trumpet (It is a D on a Bb trumpet. Meanwhile, the highest note in the "standard" range that you find in textbooks is the C just below). This basically means you just hit a note that is quite hard to hit on a trumpet, but *on a tuba* Props to this guy, he's a god.

I feel like pedals on tubas are at the extreme low end of the range of the human ear. Combine that with the fact that it takes so much air, and that probably explains why it can be hard to hear pedal notes on tubas. Speaking of which, I wonder if certain animals are better equipped to pick up those lower frequencies than people. Just my own thoughts. -Mason Mealick

Range- C1- C7 . Congrats men. :) So actually, from a trumpet perspective, C4 is low C, C5 is mid C, C6 is High C, C7 is double High C, so you went from triple pedal C to double high C :D Anyway, amazing. :)

I'm pretty sure his range is actually C0-C6 in this video. The highest note is definitely a C two lines above the treble staff and the lowest he played was a C0 since you could barely hear it as a pitch.

On both my 6/4 CC tuba and my 5/4 Eb tuba, both with 5 valves, I can get toFFF#, but trying to go lower, my breath isn't strong enough, and the tone won't come out. I guess I'm too wimpy in my old age (82). I can get to eb'' once in a while, but not without a good warmup. Maybe in my next life I'll be able to do better.

To people who say tuba has small range

I play trombone and the lowest note I can reach is a pedal C, but its just an F attachment, so it's not a bass. The highest note I can reach is the C in the treble clef. I am still in school but I don't consider that an excuse.

all brass instruments can play the same ranges from Beneath bass clef to above treble clef, but depending on its tubing and design, some brass instruments cane sound more clear than others in certain ranges

Actually they have a limit on the lowest note they resonate to, which is the fundamental frequency (aka pedal tones), "notes" below the fundamental aren't actually produced by the instrument.

Thats not a double pedal c dude, thats called silence. The double pedal C has a frequency of 16 Hz, so if you just double toungue pretty fast into the mouthpiece, you could technically call it a double pedal c.

no you couldn't call that a double pedal c, it would be the same not as a double pedal c, but that's not what a double pedal c is

When you're playing low you look both condescending and struggling

This is like a mid note for a trumpet

I play tuba and my lowest note is still A flat 😭

These extremes don't sound good at all. Amazing that you can get there but not really usable in music. Perhaps if you get amazing and play in some mad jazzy bavarian band or something.
