I started on double lip, but after about two years i switched to lip on bottom teeth on top and using one of the little soft cushion pads by vandoren on top. I think it changed my sound a lot because i could get a much tighter embrochure, and it made it easier to hit higher notes and use larger reeds. I've been playing about 4 years in total now and I can still do both.

It's a personal choice. Whatever works better and is more comfortable for the player, then just use that embouchure.

I have sharp upper front teeth, which would restrict how much I could use double-lip embouchure. I believe Joe Allard's single-lip embouchure technique, if you learn it correctly, gives all the advantages of double lip, without the discomfort, if you have sharp teeth.

I wish I could keep playing double lip myself, It's much better! But my top lip hurts even with little pressure.. That being said, I use double lip a little. It's a good indication of how the single lip embouchure has to be..
