Double headed Castles on the Welsh Marches Express including the DEAFENING ROAR on the Lickey Bank
The main feature of this video is the RARE double heading of two GWR Castles on the Welsh Marches Express including the assault on the Lickey Bank. This turned out to be one of the sounds I have ever recorded and includes two locations on the Bank and a view from the drone.
In between the outward and return journeys we visited the Severn Valley Railway to video all three of their steam and diesel locomotives operating on this day. These were 50035 'Ark Royal', Pannier Tank No. 7714 and newly painted Standard 5 No. 75069.
The video also includes two HSTs, a Cross Country version seen on the Lickey Bank and the Midland Pullman variant see on the final scene at Bescot.
Sit back, turn up the volume and enjoy the soundtrack. You will not be disappointed.

What an outstanding video John, action packed throughout, and that drone footage of the Castles on the Lickey was out of this world...Regards...Bob

Bob, The ascent of the Lickey by the two Castles will be remembered for a long time. Whilst the Castles appear to have, quite rightly, been assisted for most of the day due to the fire risk, a heavy shower just prior to the arrival of the train at Bromsgrove appeared to have provided for a much longed for unassisted climb. Whatever the reason the result was sensational. Regards, John
Excellent! Stunning assembly of shots. Thanks

Rob, It all came together rather well and the heavy shower stopped just prior to the Castle's arrival allowing the drone to get airborne to capture the unassisted climb of the Lickey Bank. Regards, John
Wonderful stuff. Castles put on a great display up Lickey…and no assistance from the 47!

Nige, We were extremely lucky with the weather as a heavy shower stopped just before the Castles arrived and after the train had gone by the heavens opened. Regards, John
You had a busy day yesterday John, great footage and you didn't get wet. Regards Mike.

Mike, Whilst we were very lucky with the weather on the Lickey the spots of rain you can see on the drone clip as the train heads for the summit soon turned into a monsoon. This was on top of a heavy shower just prior to the arrival of the Castles. Therefore a sensational capture but at the expense of a real soaking. Regards, John
John looks like your having a wonderful time. Thanks for closing with the beautiful blue and white Pullman Rolling Stock. The earlier footage also of the passage of the contemporary system before the steam passage is Engineering Excellence and beautiful. Really drives home that the steamers worked hard and electric drives are effortless.

@@GreatBritishRailways1 I am tempted to follow your example and video Union Pacific Railroad freights crossing the Nevada Desert. I am retired on Social Security and really need to drive as little as possible. Maybe a few years from now I could look into it.
Well that was certainly a well packed and as always a well planned day John. Your opening shot was a 'me to you' as I was at Tame Bridge after catching the 40 in New Street. The Lickey was so well covered as expected but it was also good to see the climb from the 'other side' and in better light as well as from up above. Drivers get all the kudos but it's also good to see proper firing .... a few on heritage lines could learn from the VT Guys!! Regards, Brian.

Brian, On the Lickey we were extremely lucky with the weather as the rain stopped just prior to the arrival of the Castles and the heavens opened up just after it passed. Not sure whether this allowed an unassisted climb but the result was sensational. Regards, John

@@GreatBritishRailways1 Yes John, I spoke to Phil at Bromsgrove while watching the blackening sky heading my way. The plan was based on unassisted when they left Gloucester but subject to NR confirmation which I think they got while held at Stoke Prior. Regards ,Brian.
Stunning video! Incredible, stunning sound on the lickey, great lighting and well taken shots throughout all the the angles and lively scenery. Keep it up!
