'Double Emergency’ in Ethiopia Prompts UNICEF Call for Scaled-Up Response

UNICEF Emergency Director Manuel Fontaine speaks to the devastating impacts of conflict and climate change on children and families in Ethiopia's Afar region, and the urgent need for a scaled-up response. Immediate priorities include increasing the capacity of local health facilities to treat the growing numbers of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. “At the same time,” Fontaine says, “we will have to find longer-term solutions for those people who have lost their cattle, have been displaced, in some cases by conflict, by drought, by floods and need to actually get on with their lives.”
