Double Dare Season 1 Falcons vs Terminators October 1986 (Lost Episode)

I was on this episode of Double Dare during the first season in October 1986. The show was filmed at WHYY studios in Philadelphia during the first season. I have shown this episode multiple times to family members, college friends, neighbors, pretty much anyone who wanted to see it (or those who were stuck at my house and I forced them to watch). Now that immediate access is a common thing, any time I bring it up, we start an inevitable internet search so we can watch it, and come up empty-handed.
After some investigation, it appears that this may be a "lost" episode. It does not show up on Paramount+ (www.paramountplus.com/shows/d..., but I would suspect it would be between episodes 34 and 35, as the team in episode 35 (the Quackers) were the other 7th grade team from my school, and we recorded before them (not that the episodes ran in the order they were recorded, due to the magic of Hollywood, it's just my best guess). Or, maybe it's episode 38, as that episode is missing here, doubledare.fandom.com/wiki/Do..., also the one right before the aforementioned Quackers episode.
Having always had it in my possession since 1986, I never realized it was "lost." If it wasn't for my neighbor's insistence, this episode may have remained "lost" for good, as I may have squirreled it away like Gollum.
As for why it was "lost," I suppose we'll never know. My personal running theory is that maybe I was a little too precocious back in those days ("sleep," "the numbers go from one to twenty," "norwegia," etc.), and the powers that be wanted to make an example out of me. Or, maybe there was a flood, like I saw mentioned on one of the sites.
Anyway, that's my story. Enjoy!

37 years? that can't be right, that would make me old. just kind of funny, i had watched my own copy so many times over the years, didn't ever think it wasn't out there for others to watch, glad i got it back out there

Thank you for uncovering this lost episode! It must not have reran (let alone on Nick GaS) due to Marc's mistake on the Maryland question; which certainly could have just been edited out.

seems like a weird reason to not re-run an episode. surely he's made other minor mistakes? or maybe those are the other "lost" episodes

@@mattanderson8129 I've heard rumors that some of the episodes were lost in a flood or something. I do remember one episode they never reran. I remember the exact moment when I realized why they didn't rerun it. They gave away the show's casting agent's home phone number on the air.

This is great! Thank you so much for sharing an episode many of us did not even know existed until today. One of the I think more likely theories as to why this episode was not added to Paramount+ was because Marc made a mistake where he accidentally said the contestants were wrong for a correct answer, causing the question to get thrown out.

glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for posting your theory. i never thought about the "host must be infallible" theory on why it wouldn't be broadcast. seems a little nit-picky for a show where contestants would shove their hands up a giant nose to find a flag :D

I think the reason this episode is "lost" could be that it is missing, or if Nickelodeon has it in their archives, then it is in very bad shape.

Alana and I were 7th grade classmates. Our school sent 4 teams, 2 from 7th grade (they were the Quackers in a subsequent episode), and 2 teams from 8th grade. I suspect that was the same for our opponents and most teams. Our 7th grade teams filmed the episodes back-to-back in the morning, 8th grade in the afternoon. The audience was made up of our 7th grade classmates.

@@mattanderson8129 Haha! Someone died in the pool at the hotel. I’m not kidding. I absolutely would pull out the tape of the show to show anyone who wanted to see. I lost the tape during a move, so I was thrilled to finally find it on KZread. People were starting to question the validity of my claim to fame. I tried to explain to folks that our episode was tape way before the show was ever aired, let alone popular. I know I had no idea what I was going to happen. I’d wish they told me to bring a change of clothes because after the obstacle course things were a mess!

That's crazy about the hotel. I remember being in the dressing room after the show, and Pat was still covered in that green syrup. I was able to just get changed and leave, small consolation I guess. Well that, and my super fashionable radio necklace that every 12 year old boy would love to wear. Anyway, belated congratulations.
