Dorset Garden Wildlife Pond

Фильм және анимация

A little video of the wildlife pond in our garden. Work in progress, but already full of wildlife. With thanks to Kate Bradbury for inspiring us with her book 'Wildlife Gardening for Everyone and Everything'.

What a lovely pond! I’m hoping to put one a bit bigger next to a decent boggy garden bit and native wildlife hedge and woodpile/insect hotel etc in our FRONT garden this year. Just don’t tell the wife - she’ll kill me! (As although she’ll love the end result she’ll hate the mess!) I’m going to go hard at it for a week when she’s away. ….. Fingers crossed our young kids will help me and not hinder the build!?!?!

It's amazing how nature finds its way into ponds quickly without having to introduce them. Superb video, thanks for sharing this with us.

Isn't it amazing. We left a wheelbarrow to fill with extra rainwater for a few days, beside the pond, and when we went to empty it into the pond it had a little population of water boatmen and a diving beetle!

Thank you for your interesting and nicely made video. I am just starting to add plants to a small pond I have recently dug out here in Eastbourne. I used to live in Upwey in the early 80's and love the Dorset countryside.

Great job. Your comments are so true.. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. Birds would love it. Good on you for doing that. I have several ponds that are well planted with native plants. Take a look if you wish if not no worries. Take care.

Your pond is very beautiful. Next year I'm planning to put one in in our backyard. A size of approximately 2 to 3 square metre. Our backyard is mostly still a blank slate, so lots of freedom to design the garden around the pond. I didn't really knew yet about native marginal plants being best, but it sounds interesting considering the fact it is what local wildlife needs. Is your pond round or slightly egg shaped?

That's beautiful. 😊 I need to rethink my pond as I think my liner is split as it's not holding water (the pond itself is too close to a conifer hedge. 🤔

I love the pond. How do you keep the water clear?

I think all the plants and insects do that
