Dorothy Sayers -- famous author, outspoken Christian: The greatest drama ever staged

Dorothy Sayers (1893-1957) is best-known as a mystery writer, inventor of Lord Peter Wimsey. She was also the author of "The Mind of the Maker" and "The Man Born to be King", which, like the popular works of her friend CS Lewis, caused many to think again upon the eternal relevance of the Christ story.

I did not know this, thank you for the information and for sharing her eloquent writings. I recently watched some of the Lord Peter Wimsey television programs which sparked an interest in Dorothy Sayers. Her Christianity is expressed, I believe, in the character of Lord Peter because although an aristocrat and man of the world his genuine and selfless kindness and compassion comes through.

I certainly did not know she was a Christian. It makes me adore her all the more. Lord Peter Wimsey is one of my favorite characters of all time. ❤

Sayers wrote much trenchant Christian apologetics. She was a friend of CS Lewis and, like he, was a vocal critic of the religious state of England in that era.

I love her writings and conviction of faith. But I’ve never heard a Christian say God made us this way and took His own medicine. He made us flawless, but with free will, with which humanity chose disobedience, the consequences we all suffer. He sent His Son to show us God’s love and forgiveness as a way back to the heavenly life for which we were created in His image and likeness. We lost this likeness by our own choices. He calls us back and suffered as much as our sins cost Him to sacrifice all in order to show us the way to love.

Hi Susan -- Thanks for your thoughts. In your second sentence, is it a specific section of the Sayers reading you are reacting to when you say "God made us this way and took His own medicine"?

Thank you, David. Another cosmic question to ask those who are willfully ignorant or willfully unbelieving regarding The Messiah: What do you do with your guilt?

But I find Scripture VERY interesting. Once we escape the clutches of Religion, and find real truth, the Bible opens to us in ways that humble the modest mortal while "blowing our minds" in the best way possible.

Very interesting. I did not know that about Dorothy L Sayers. She says that Jesus experiences all the tribulations of human kind. What about unrequited love for an individual being? What do I think of Christ? An exciting fiction!

Jesus was not God Almighty, but as he confirmed himself: the son of God. This is stated too often in scripture to be pushed aside by those who assert that he is God himself in order to support a pet theory. Reality has to be faced by such people otherwise they are saying that Jesus was a liar but they speak the truth. That would be the height of arrogance and blasphemy.

God is the Ultimate Power....he is the Ultimate Mind, The Ultimate Spirit, The Ultimate Morality.....how is God not the Ultimate Relationship? Scripture declares God IS LOVE. ...it doesn't say HAS LOVE BUT IS LOVE...If God is Love, then not only is he the Ultimate in all those things I mentioned, but he is also the Ultimate Relationship. ... Father/Son/Holy Spirit...

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:1-5

The son of God and God the son are not synonyms.
