I think they are both acting quite bad. What he said was frankly idiotic and I think highlights a big issue within the gay community when it comes to not only racism but also misogyny. However, she never properly acknowledges here how he feels. If she had just stated that it was wrong that he cannot give blood and is discriminated against for being gay, instead of belittling it like it's the equivalent of not being invited to a party or something. She should of been like - its sooo Fking wrong, however blood drives are still important, and unfortunately, those running them (I believe) have no say over the political inequality of the situation.

It’s not wrong though. Gay men have suffered from HIV for so long. It’s perfectly normal that they wouldn’t take his blood it happens in a lot of places. It’s the same reason they question people who have tattoos. Dorothy was right it’s not about him it’s about the people who’s lives need saving.

The reason that gay/bi/mlm have been banned from donating blood is due to the fact that previously the most commonly used test to detect hiv in blood was an antibody test, when you're infected with HIV your body creates antibodies to try to fight against the infection and the test doesn't detect the actual virus but the HIV antibodies. The problem is that your body can take 6 weeks to 6 months to produce a high enough volume of antibodies to be detected as positive in the test, so you could just get tested come up and negative and have the virus and donate blood with then infects multiple people with the virus. It's also a severe backlash to the aids crisis in the 80s despite that hiv/aids isn't as prevalent and is possible to treat to a decent living.

I at first was mad upon watching a short clip where the guy said she's not a minority but then my opinion changed after watching the whole thing. They were talking about giving a blood donation to an organization that doesn't treat gay people as equal. I don't think being female and Asian is relevant in this situation when you are never denied for those qualities if you want to donate blood.

Minority in a sociology context doesn’t mean one group is smaller than the other, it means that one group has a physical/cultural differences than the dominant group (which is white people; sociology textbook term not mines). So regardless of size, Asians/Chinese are still a minority group. He’s not wrong to consider himself a minority on the bases of sexuality but Dorothy is also a minority on the bases of race and gender
