So Dorian might win as size and conditioning is most important factor to win and he brought combination of both... It's close but Dorian wins.

Dorian has the better figure, more balanced. Yes the quads are bigger with Ronnie but the calves are way better shaped with Dorian so the legs overall look better to me. The front and back lat spread are more impressive and grainy rock hard muscle with Dorian.

I don't agree, Dorian's legs have always been normal, nothing special, and his giant calves through off the balance. Besides, Ronnie's legs had more vascularity. Dorian has slightly better condition in the back, but he has worse muscle bellies and separation: look at Ronnie's traps in the BLS (@8:57) and you can see the lower pointy insertions

I am a Yates fan, however in my opinion it is very close, a tie almost, both are phenomenal. Exceptionally well critiqued by Mr MMM himself

@Dj_M1 I know more about each and individual popular diuretic on the market than you ever will genius. I have friends that use them on a regular basis when competing and I've done my research. What we know right now, is that Ronnie and Dorian never came in as conditioned as a prime munzer. Everything else is a guess because it hasn't happened.

From listening to the bodybuilders that competed in Yates and Ronnie's era, they said Ronnie's was better and I believe they know best, even lee Haney said Ronnie was better

Asymmetrical lats, in the later stage of his career one of them was visibly TORN, droopy saggy tits, asymmetry in conditioning all over his body. How can you have shredded glutes and hamstrings all the time but a watery back with thick skin? How do your legs from the back look diced but watery from the front? His calves were not only pathetic in size but conditioning/vascularity/shape as well. I'm sorry but you have no idea what you are talking about, Dorian is twice as proportioned as Ronnie.

@@dj_m19 I'll second that about dorian, I saw him guest pose in 96 and even though being off-season, his proportions still piss all over ronnies. The guy had back striations even in the off-season ffs and don't even get me started on those calves in person! Prime dorian was very balanced and symmetrical. That's coming from Kevin Horton himself who snapped multiple photos, not just the back and whites! Honestly wasting your time explaining to those who have no idea about criteria side of things, I have countless times as well as lusian but kinda hard to get through to an idiot 😂

I think the backs of these two guys are of different shapes. Dorian in my view had a skin condition which made him appear to be dry but doesn't make him better. What I have picked up is that the general consensus is that Ronnie is the best bodybuilder of all times.

skin condition? what??? It's called having thin skin and being crazy shredded. Ronnie had thick skin and wasn't as conditioned as Dorian, that's why his skin appeared all shiny and watery (except for glutes and hams)

Skin condition? NO! He was just in extremely good shape. To good parhaps, overdieted and lost a lot of mass last weeks. Look at the black and white pics a couple weeks before 93 Olympia.Ronnie is the best ever but 98/99 is close. Dorian at hes best was bigger then those versions of Ronnie and better conditioned. In 03 however, nobody would touch Ronnie.

I never appreciated Dorian when I younger I actually couldn't believe he won the olympia with such an ugly physique. Once I became a serious competitive bodybuilder I grew to see the true beauty in Yates physique . Yates never had good biceps but his triceps, quads, calves, back and traps were so good it was mathematically impossible to beat him in the mandatories. I honestly believe you need to have stepped on stage as a competitor to truly appreciate Yates conditioning. The suffering necessary to go on stage with Yates level conditioning will put you close to death

My man, I think you should compare the Ronnie of the 2001 ASC vintage to a bunch of other guys. He was reportedly "only" about 245-247 at that show, but IMO, that was one of his best physiques. He was shredded to the bone, dry but full in all the right places. The only demerit: he had some stomach distention, even at the lower bodyweight.

it was that slightly better conditioning that got him the win, other than that it was a tie for the poses. Dorian won all his shots without a doubt as did Ronnie, so it was very close no matter what. I have a ronnie video for you tomorrow! hope you like , and agree with that one.

Close one I have Coleman winning by one pose mainly due to his size and the legs. It's subjective tho and judging criteria changed over the years so who knows.

Better body, or better bodybuilder? Make sure before you opine about whom is better that you take in to account aesthetics, symmetry, proportions, posing, all body parts, etcetera.

This was a very fair comparison, and as far as what im seeing, i agree. However, in real time, on stage, i think the judges would pic Coleman, if they were standing next to one another. Only cause of sheer size. But it wouldnt be by much.......Maybe a point or 2.

The camera shot if from the front like Ronnie had will make a difference

I have Coleman winning this one. Yates has a better tricep, abs (look, not thickness) and calves, that's it. The lighting in some of his pics make him look much granier. The "goon light", from the top, accentuates the shadows. Coleman's are front lit, which washes some detail. I also prefer Ronnie's muscles shape and size everywhere else. He has striations in his front lats, his lats are more symmetrical from the back, better arms, shoulders, pecs, and quads. Both their glutes and hams look awesome, although very differently shaped and displayed. Coleman is more "X" framed, and Yates more Y framed (because of the posing mainly).

Dorian 93 never bettered. Coleman had no calves. He lost right there. You cant be Mr Olympia with no calves.

It really comes down to how they two would matchup on stage. Symmetry, posing, conditioning, detail aside, you are not taking size into the equation. You have to, and it would have full effect when they are adjacent. That being said, id rather have Yates' physique. I just think Coleman is much more dominant

Dorian is Great! But Ronnie is the Number One!

Coming from this era... Dorian beat people with better structure and genetics because of condition (with the big guys), and size (against small guys like S Ray). Ronnie size was equal and was just as lean

If you look at the way Yates and Ronnie do their rear lat spreads, Ronnie looks to have found a better way to perform it. His fists go way behind his back and he turns his shoulder bladed more rounded like a tortoise shell. Yates does it old school and just puts his fists in his sides.

@@michaelhayes6209 Coleman had a worse gut at lower or equal weight. 2000 - 2001 his gut was terrible, so bad that Levrone was actually pointing at it during direct comparison ON STAGE so the judges and the audience can focus on it. Coleman pre 2003 was smaller than Yates/ equal size.

In Dorian era people wanted to see conditioning, which changed when Dorian got bigger and bloated and Ronnie took over.

Exactly All one has to do is look to those black and white pictures of Dorian he was just as big as Ronnie was in 2003 but more shredded he would have crushed Ronnie if he had known Ronnie was going to be that big Dorian would have showed up like that

Coleman smokes him on arms alone. Dorian could contest the side triceps and ab and thigh. Dorian gets massacred otherwise. Dorians best competition was Nasser imo. And even little guys like Shaun Ray gave him a run for his money and arguable beat him due to no arms. Ronnie just smokes him. I love Dorian but bro get a grip lol

Oohh Boy, its gonna happen. Good stuff! My predicton: Dorian wins when it all comes down to it. Most body parts cancel each other out. /Forearms/Calves/Tricpes (Dorian) (Biceps, etc..Ronnie) Then u have to look at Raw Quality Mass/Posing/Conditioning/Symmetry/aesthetics/: U have to go with Dorian :)

Jeffrey I love Dorians physique and I agree he has better triceps, calves and forearms but Ronnie destroys him in biceps, chest, shoulder, glutes, quads and hamstrings, I don’t think Dorian can compete with him:/ Dorian wins side tricep and abs and thighs for sure but Ronnie wins side chest, most muscular and front double bicep. As for the back shots regardless of who you think has a better back (I can never make up my mind lol, they’re both so good and so different) Ronnie takes the back shots due to his legs, shoulders and arms. I much prefer the presentation and look of Dorian (he’s my fav modern bodybuilder) but he can’t compete with Ronnie on stage. I always think it’s a shame he was plagued with injury because a fully fit Dorian vs Ronni in 98 would’ve been amazing.

I can see where u comming from. But Max has already spoken. And I agree with him. Yeah his training and maybe pure bad luck stopped his carriere early on. I like that match up in 96. Look at that footage of yates/ray/Ronnie. You could already see the potential. Tonn8ter has a great video on that Olympia

If Ronnie had Dorians calves, he would have won ANOTHER 8 Olympias!!

This is why you guys aren't judges. Dorian was better in half the poses as well as Ronnie being better in half. It's on a pose by pose basis. Too many of you go by Ronnie being about 25lbs bigger and say he automatically wins. That's not how this works.

I don’t see it. I think this one should be revisited, I feel like pound for pound Coleman was better

Although the mandatories are tied, I think if they were to actually stand next to each other on stage then Coleman would take it. He’s just so much bigger and more complete than Yates. Yates had weak arms(except for side tricep) and worse legs, with a not much better midsection, so I don’t think he could beat Ronnie when standing on the same stage.

The thing is that as you said it all comes down to the mandatories. I think Ronnie takes it in a close battle. Ronnie as a whole looks certainly more dominant than Dorian, but bodybuilding is judged on winning poses thus I think it would be close with both at their best.

Chad Chadiel Ronnie ‘99 really isn’t bigger than Yates ‘93. His shape and slightly smaller frame and muscle bellies give him an illusion. Stand them next to each other and Yates is more dense and way harder, but not as shapely. Also look at the quads, always fascinating. Dorians mass in his legs sits low, closer to the knees whilst Ronnie’s sits much higher closer to the hips. Ronnie’s chest is also deeper & he has much better front delts.

so much bigger?in your wet dreams maybe both men were 257 lb in those contests, both are 5 10, so they are very darn close sizewise. Heck dorian is harder and drier at that bodyweight.Ronnie had smaller waist, joints, small headand rounder muscle bellies ,All that gives the illusion of size but if they stood side by side dorian would make ronnie look NARROW and soft. he is more complete?how the fuck is he complete when his overall balance is whack his insane arms dwarf his forearms his insane thighs dwarf his calves the only edge he has with dorian is that his arms are more in proportion to the torso , but thats it.Overall Yates had better balance and completeness. Pose by pose Yates wins both lat spreads, abs & thigh andsidetriceps 4/7 mandatories =WIN

@Dj_M1 ronnie was 248 in 98, 257 in 99, 263 in 2000, 265 in 2001 and 245 in 02( he overdieted ).The bigger he got the more watery he was , he lost density and hardness and his midsection blew out .He wasnt meant to be a massive guy as his bone structure is "medium" sized like say levrone and cormier, but not very large like dorian, cutler ..

Wtf did you just give front double to dorian?

I've always thought '93 Dorian beats anybody, but this is close. If you look at 9:30, 1:50 or 11:00 Ronnie looks sharper and more aesthetic. Dorian is granite dense. It's close. Toss a coin really??

let me get the 1991 Mr O comparison Lee Haney vs Dorian Yates you should chuck in Thierry Pastel from 1991 for good measure the guy I think actually won the competition

good Idea, but there is not many good pics of thiery so it wouldn't really be fair to put him in. Thiery was so good that if he did win, I doubt anyone would have complained. Yates was very conditioned though.

I'd take Dorian side tri, ab and thighs and detailed in the back. Just. That's my personal preference. But you can clearly see the case for Ronnie of course - the fullness is just staggering. But the greatest physique in history is Dorian three weeks out in '93. Weighing about 275, full as fuck, already ripped to all hell. The balance at that size was unparallelled.

That was Dorians peak for sure, the black & whites. Though I still prefer Colemans peak, his overall structure. I think Dorians RDB in the 93 black and whites is second best in history when compared with Colemans 2003 RDB

Show me that type of conditioning from 97 Dorian? Since Ronnie won cuz he wasn't there

Dorian didn't do the 98 Olympia because he knew he would lose. He just didn't know it would be to Ronnie because ronnie surprised everyone.

6:21 Seriously, I am a Dorian fan, but how can the front double biceps be an easy win for Dorian? Ronnie has the better arms (peakier biceps and better definition) and his bigger quads with more outer sweep and relatively small waist give the pose an amazing X shape. On the other hand, the Front Double was never an outstanding pose for Dorian (could have been in 96 though, but his torn biceps ruins it) and, even with both biceps here, he looks rather blocky compared to Ronnie.

I think Ronnie got him with the back his lower back right above the glutes made two trees 9:58. That one did it for me but they r close.

Looking at Ronnie's head size compared to.dorian you know ronnie was on a whole new level. Never to be seen again
