Doppler Ultrasound - Understanding Direction of Flow | Sonography Minutes
It's time for a little Doppler Ultrasound Tutorial on Blood Flow Direction. Join me as we discuss Doppler Ultrasound (Understanding Direction of Flow). We'll explore the color Doppler map, color Doppler box steering, how to determine the location of the transducer (Ultrasound beam) when using Doppler, and matching the color Doppler box steering to the lie of the vessel. We'll put all those skills together and view flow towards the transducer and flow away from the transducer scenarios. Do you know when you should (and shouldn't) steer the color Doppler box? Find out here! Learn pitfalls when determining blood flow direction. Last but not least, we'll demystify determining the direction of flow with a curvilinear transducer and on spectral Doppler. Yes, I completely agree. I added music to some videos on this channel after a viewer complained that there was no music. But, when I started adding music I received a ton of complaints. All my newer videos have no music, and I will not be adding music to any of my future content. Thanks for watching!

If we cut carotid artery, jugular vein through a transverse view, why does that color doppler have opposite color in two vessel ? the ultrasound bean is travel "perpendicular" to the vessel , shouldn't it show no signal on color doppler?

If you have a vessel lying horizontally on the screen and an un-steered color Doppler box, then yes, there is a 90 degree angle and there is either no Doppler shift at all or sometimes little blips of flow (if the vessel has just a hint of an angle to it). If either the color Doppler box is steered (to the right or to the left), and/or the vessel lies at a slight angle (it’s slightly vertical rather than horizontal on the screen), then you will have enough of an angle to visualize a Doppler shift and obtain a Doppler signal. And this will occur whether the vessels are cut from a transverse or a sagittal plane. There is opposite colors in the two vessels because they are traveling two different directions (artery vs vein).

confused since 4:22, what is box angle ???

  • @SonographyMinutes

The box angle is the direction that the color Doppler box is steered (angled). It can be un-steered (straight) or steered towards the right, or steered towards the left.

How do u determine which way the vessel lies? This part confuses me

  • @SonographyMinutes

Draw an imaginary line through the middle of the vessel, parallel with the vessel walls. The slant, or angle of this line is the lie of the vessel. Great question! I’ve been getting this question a lot. Mini video coming soon on this topic!

Kindly edit the transcript. It has no punctuation marks. Also there are errors of spellings. May be because it is auto-generated.

Thank you for your reply. Further, I feel that KZread too must use some technology like AI to develop automated spell check as per the subject of discussion, with punctuation marks, and capitalisation at appropriate places such as first letter of sentences, abbreviations etc.
