I am a Christian. Salam to my Muslim bros. I really wish Brother Hijab would campaign more strongly against the use of illegal drugs in Britain. Taking illegal drugs is just as sinful as drinking alcohol. Brother Hijab is such an influential figure. He could make a difference. You can smell cannabis all over London, the police do nothing, and neither do the courts. None of the Muslim speakers seem ever to mention it.

It's one of those things that Muslims know are wrong yet do anyway to "fit in," so no matter how much the imams say that smoking is forbidden, so long as it remains a cultural problem it will persist. This is also seen with alcohol in Bosnia, who despite being a majority Muslim nation, has a problem with alcohol.

Some Key Points - 19:40 Whatever the "drug" of addiction (even if not a drug), key thing is to abstain from that drug so to reset the reward pathway in the brain - 19:47 30 Day enough to break cravings from most addictions, although the addiction itself will be relapsing-remitting - 24:00 Key rule is to balance pain and pleasure. The brain isn't used to only one of these. The see-saw shouldn't be too much in one direction. For example, with too much pleasure, the brain will actively try to bring that pleasurable feeling DOWN to reset the balance. This is the short term. 24:56 The problem is that if we continue to consume our drug, then our setting-point will change long-term, and now the brain is STUBBORNLY trying to bring that feeling DOWN so we NEED more of the drug just to avoid the brain's overreaction. So it becomes very hard to actually experience pleasure now. 25:55 SOLUTION: By abstaining, the brain has to reverse its current harmful overreaction, and by then intentionally seeking pain (e..g exercise) the brain now tries to bring the mood UP.

In my experience after watching shaykh hamza Yusuf’s lecture on controlling the lower self and desires and him mentioning the single reason why the 12 step program was most successful recovery program for addicts, being the acceptance of powerlessness against the addiction and that you won’t succeed in overcoming the addiction if YOU try to change rather you should rely on a greater power, The All powerful. Using this approach has helped me get very far beyond what I thought was possible for me without relapsing jn my porn and masturbation addiction.

I'm very impressed with her cool and calm composure because as a listener I was getting frustrated that her knowledge sharing kept getting cut abruptly. At around 30 minutes in the video, they talk about happiness and stuff. I said something in 2018 on a Facebook post without having any clue of this kind of discussions or understanding of what I was saying. I guess I was basically saying the same thing that being content and satisfied carries more weight against being always trying to stay happy "Some people are chronically unhappy while others are generally happy and for some it's not a choice. Some people love being sad and are addictive to it. It's better being generally happy or truely sad than living with a VOID emotion or being depressed, stressed, anxious, dissatisfied and ungreatful. But if your happiness or sadness is associated with material world then you were never truely happy or sad!"

Salam I smoked cigarettes for more than 10 years. It has been nearly 3 years since I smoked the last cigarette. I could quit smoking by 2 strategies One is as a Muslim I never accepted cigarettes as a allows ( Halal ) thing. Second is In my brain I combined all of my problems with cigarettes That means I told my self every problems that I had have because of smoking cigarettes. Instead of enjoying smoking cigarettes Smoke it and think about it’s disadvantages Your brain will gradually away itself from it. I can’t sleep in a room If the person had been smoked there. Absolutely you can quit any bad habits if you want. ❤❤❤

The Doctor is very well spoken. Only criticism is she didn't clear SSRI vs dopamine as an antidepressant. After online research this is what I found: While dopamine plays a role in mood regulation, it primarily functions as a neurotransmitter associated with reward and pleasure in the brain. SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) work by increasing the levels of serotonin, another neurotransmitter, in the brain, which is more directly linked to depression and mood regulation. Additionally, directly targeting dopamine for antidepressant effects can lead to various side effects and complications, as dopamine is involved in a wide range of physiological processes beyond mood regulation. Therefore, medications that specifically target serotonin are preferred for treating depression, as they have been found to be more effective and have fewer side effects compared to those targeting dopamine.
