Door lock actuator motor replacement Pruis C 2014 - Not locking / unlocking

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Replacing the passenger door's actuator motor. It was ~$10 on amazon (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...)
Issue: my driver's door, passenger's door, and rear driver's side door all wouldn't lock or unlock when the remote lock or electronic lock button was pushed. Toyota dealership quoted $250 for the part per door + labor.
Repair: Found that each door was different and only filmed the third. Hope it helps you.

For the driver's door, there's one additional step to take when reinstalling the actuator in order for the physical key to lock/unlock the door. (I learned this the hard way today.) There a metal arm that extends from the key hole into the actuator. You'll need to get that situated in the right spot in order for anything to happen when you turn the key in the door. Hope this might help somebody else!

Came here to say the same thing after replacing my actuator and 3 years later learning that my manual door lock doesn’t work anymore (necessary to unlock your car if the 12V battery - or your key fob - is dead)! Would upvote this a thousand times if I could. If anyone else is having trouble locating this second metal arm, I recommend popping off the round rubber plug on the end of the door. This will allow you to see into the top of the lock assembly much more easily. Try turning your manual key and look through this peephole - you will see the rod turning which should help you actually get a hand on it from the other side. You should also see (or feel, if it’s already in the door as mine was - no need to pull it out, but you’ll want to unplug it and unscrew the 3 torx screws to be able to move it around freely) a corresponding socket near the top/rear of the actuator assembly. Once you’ve got a hand on each, it’s just a matter of finagling them into place, which takes a little patience since you can’t see what you’re doing, but should ultimately slip in without having to apply any force. Ideally you’ll want to do this BEFORE your car dies, to save you from having to pay a locksmith to break into your completely impenetrable car :)

Thanks man. I did the whole thing and checked for this and sure enough the physical key wasn't working. For the driver's side there are TWO metal bars, one at the bottom and one at the top. You need both in their respective slots. The top one is the manual lock and if you don't put that metal bar in, you won't be able to manually change it with the key and if your FOB goes you are in trouble. I'm glad this post was made because I would have never checked for it. Only took an extra 30 minutes to take it back apart and get the top bar in.

I was able to replace the motor without resorting to taking the entire actuator apart. Thanks for this. Very useful.

Excellent video! The tip to try to pop out the motor without opening the whole thing was spot on. I got both of my doors done in under 2 hours. It only cost $16 plus tax to do both.

Great video. I did my front driver's side and it took two hours - which was actually taking in apart and putting together twice because I missed something the first time. As the pinned post by kyleshohfi4166 mentions, for the front driver's side there are TWO metal bars, one top and one bottom. The bottom one is easy to see, the top one is harder to see but you can see it. Both need to be placed in their respective slots on the actuator, if you don't do the top one the manual key won't work. Thanks great video saved me $500

Great video! You saved me a ton of money. The motor was bad in my left front 2013 Prius C. I was able to take the motor out without complete disassembling the actuator, but the levers weren’t operating like you show in the video, so I did a complete disassembly, reset levers and installed a new $8 motor and now it works like new.

Thanks for the video. I did both my driver and front passenger doors in one hour. Bought my door actuators on EBay and paid $50 each used. Thanks

Just fixed my sisters Prius following your video. Thank you. Hardest part for sure was carefully reassembling the actuator so everything lined back up. Unbelievably frustrating. I put it back together and had to pry it back open 3 times before I got that last lever to line up. One tip for people watching this is, see where the last lever needs to be and use a long piece of tape to hold it in place. Then once you have the main cover locked in place and you can verify it’s still lined up, and then just remove the tape. Without taping it for some reason the lever got flipped to the opposite side every time I tried reassembling it and I had to keep redoing it. Good luck!

Video was a great help in replacing the driver and passenger door lock actuators on a 2014 Prius c. Only problem was I broke 2 panel clips in removing it. Found out later you can order the clips on Amazon using the part number from Toyota. Especially like the way you did the video.
