Doomsday is here: Haul Out Day 1

The dirty work begins, but since we are straight out of the saddle, the spirits are high!
As soon as we get onto the concrete we dive right under deck to prep the replacement of our shaft seal and cutlas bearing. We wish we noticed that the rudder might be in the way, and a good idea to take off while still hoisted up. For once the cranes set us down, we realized the rudder was in the way of getting the shaft out...whoops. Hindsight is 20/20 in retrospection, but we are working with the choices we made. So instead we veered into the replacement of the thru hulls and getting the bottom ready to be painted. Might as well stay busy with all the other things, instead of freezing because of one challenge!
Unfortunately that was the first of many hiccups. Sadly to say, we wasted some of the day waiting for someone to pressure wash the boat. We were told by "sources" that a pressure wash was included in the haul out. Said "source" was incorrect. We were labels a "DIY" boat, so the expectation was that we were doing everything ourselves. They did offer to do it for us for $160 an hour, but at that point the thru hulls were opened up and ready for replacement...whoops. So we truly found ourselves, DIY. So Malwina suited up and went to war!
But with two committed and enthusiastic sailers, we were up for the challenges. We knew this was probably just the first of many during this doomsday week.
So come along..this time to concrete! To learn through our mistakes, and see the not so glamorous side of sailing. For it's all the backstage stuff that creates the spectacular and safe moments out in the raging sea!
Seas the Day,
Connor, Malwina & Alivo

Nice work m. You do stuff right. Good find on that starboard my only recommendation is heat up that thru hull next time it will fall out after the valve is off

Awesome! It was probably stressful this time since it was our first time, but happy to get it done and not have to do it for a little while 😊

That’s right! We are taking the leap and jumping into it, whether everyone or no one is doing it, because it feels right for US! We have saved for years to make this happen. Started posting videos for friends and family and if we grow to make money off it…great! Hope that you can enjoy it too! 💗
