Halfway through the book and it really is terrific. I read Masters of Doom years ago and it's even better getting a first-hand experience. Really humanizes the making of and John really breaks down the entire process of developing the games that I loved growing up.

It's such a treat for fans of ID, and I really respect that as far as I can see, he didn't ghost write it and even narrates it himself. That's not a small undertaking, I dug how he really wrote in a way that feels like you're there. And it's not self aggrandizing either.
I ended up listening to the audiobook version. Romero did the reading and it was great. Being the same age and going through a similar path of self taught learning, this book really brought back the memories. Fantastic book!
The interviewer did a very good job here.

First I thought he was a bit too quirky and nervous but this ended up being one of the best Romero interviews

Amazing video and interview. Thank you so much! John Romero alongside with John Carmack are my heroes.
John Romero is the goat man
I just found out this is a thing, god I’m excited to check this out. If only carjack would also release a similar autobiography, that would be legendary
I wish someday somebody make a movie based on the book, about ID software and how they made Doom. They are really first rockstars of game dev, their story is so good suitable for cinematography

A la "Pirates of Silicon Valley", "Halt and Catch Fire", and "Tetris"... ? Dude... that would be just THE BEST.
I don't play a lot of Doom, but it has been a nice 30 years of Doom
He is Generally a good guy
Amazing video. Thank you.
Great interview!
0:55 He really got some charismatic personality.
Honestly I always thought the Daikatana ad was funny lol, but I can see why it backfired.
Mr Romero, where is Blackroom?
Brings back memories! 👹
A new book to check out.
Host reminds me of a movie character whose name I can't remember right now

My favorite "does it run Doom" right now is the one that runs using the CPU utilization readout in Task Manager of a massive Xeon workstation

For Doom and Wolfenstein, yes. Quake, no.
Is the interviewer the son of Nardwuar?
"Like, you know, like, um, so what like how" How do you get interviews like this, when you talk like this?!?!
Why does John Carmack only get the good podcast hosts? The Lex Friedman and Joe Rogan podcasts were excellent.
