Im not sure if you had the resources but you could have crafted a tier 2 to put in front of the door to stop them from entering, or moved the furnace to at least make it so they can't just sprint around the corner.

Great Defense. This is why I don't like double doors though. Single doors there's so many items you can throw in front of breach that will save you.
