There were certain things she did with her voice, notes, something magic that she did, that took me to church often. Well, for me, there were some notes she would hit that would hit me in the center of my chest and take my breath away and my eyes well up. After a show in Tahoe, she asked me backstage if I liked the show, but then she saw tears in my eyes, and she said, "Oh, no" and headed away from me toward the lounge area for the band and guests backstage. But, I called out and said, Wait! May I ask you a question? And she stopped and turned around and said, Yes. So, I said, The last song of the show, you held out a really long note at the end of the song. [Yes, she nodded], but then you signaled the band to reprise that last line and you sang the line AGAIN and held out the note even longer, and I nearly fell out of my chair. Yes? What is the question, she asked? So, I asked, Were you surprised that you were able to sustain that note for as long as you did? And she looked upward and off to the left, and then to the right as though she was thinking about that moment, and then she casually and very plainly said, "Uh, un. No." And my jaw dropped, and she spun on her heels to walk away, but as she walked away, she turned and gave me a big grin, showing that bright smile that could light up the entire West Coast. I saw that look another time, and it was something she said to embarrass me - it was off-color and a bit naughty (especially for a good Christian girl) - I turned a deep red with embarrassment because I could NOT believe what she had just said to me - and she walked away triumphantly, but turned to look at me with this big grin, and then she turned on her heels and walked away with a bit of a swagger, as if to say, I win! I got you! lol. She did too. She was hilariously funny, and loved to make people laugh and she loved people who could make her laugh. A good friend of hers wanted to tell her a joke - I think we were at Giorgio's on Rodeo Drive for a private party, and Donna said, Yes, but this had better be a clean joke! So, her friend said, What do Faye Dunaway and Hugh Grant have in common? Donna said, Bernice, this had better not be dirty! And Bernice said, "They were both BLOWN off of Sunset Boulevard". Faye Dunaway had just been fired from the musical Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, and it wasn't long after Hugh Grant had been caught with Divine Brown one block from my house just off of Sunset Blvd. getting a BJ, I presume. Divine Brown was a hooker, obviously. Donna wasn't pleased with Bernice, but Bernice laughed. So, I stepped in and said that I had a joke for her. It had better not be dirty! It isn't, I promise. Okay, she said. Here goes: How many lightbulbs does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Donna said, None. We have people to do that for us. I said, that's not bad, but no. The answer is: It takes one Diva. The Diva holds the lightbulb, and the rest of the world revolves around her. lol. Donna laughed out loud and asked if she could borrow that one, and I said, Of course, but I wasn't sure where I heard it or from whence it came. But, she liked it. I hope you enjoyed those anecdotes, and I thank you for your comment which brought up these memories for me to relive. She was my dear friend, sister, mother, fairy-godmother, and my favorite singer of all time. All the best to you--

Donna's voice was so pure and powerful. I love that she always had a smile when she sang. She was the best of the best.

Donna and Whitney had unbelievable agility, clarity tone and power. It's out of this world. Josh Stones has definitely a one of kind unique and jazzy voice out there

I love Joss Stone but you could sure tell she knew she had her hands full here. Donna Summer is one of a kind, she could have done this with out the band.

Donna Summer Never disappoints me.

Why did Joss even put her mic to her mouth when Donna was ready to go off at the 2:30 point. Donna was never one to out sing anyone but the holy spirt got into her and no one could hear poor Joss at that point. Even Joss knew. LoL. Love it! Great duet!!

Yeah she was courageous enuf 2 share the stage wit Donna Summer she should b applauded 4 dat alone Donna was always at her best live n concert dat's the reason The 2000 Celebrating Diana Ross Diana was upset dat Donna had stolen the sho everybody knows u don't follow a better singers or performer so Ms Ross decided her performance wasn't stellar so no DVD was ever released

This is true talent, Donna you are and always will be the supreme vocalist ever.

More than just disco. A voice that transcended across a hole range of music. Donna was never given the credit for how good her voice. Up there with Whitney, Carey, Aretha, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday. Incidentally Love to Love you Baby, not supposed to be released. recorded a a joke, between her and moroder.

Artist now seem to be able to do different genres, and be successful. Donna, had some of the best ballads. Have you heard Slide Over Backwards, from her final Release, Crayons?

The unexpected Donna outburst of Fierceness was so good at the 2:22 mark. Joss didn't know what to do. This was such a cute performance!

RIP Donna you are sorely missed

Donna and her family were my neighbors and friends at 16 Parker Hill Ave. in Mission Hill. A sign was erected at the corner of Parker Hill Ave and Huntington Ave by the city of Boston which reads "DONNA SUMMER AVENUE". The memories will last forever. R.I.P. Disco Queen.

The first Queen of Pop... the original ! Pop music's first female mega star . Before Madonna, Whitney, Janet, Celine etc.. Donna was the first real hot streak...9 consecutive top 5 hits (all million sellers or better), including 4 number ones and 6 top 4 singles in a 12,13 month period. 3 # 1 singles and 5 top 10 and or 5 top 5 singles in a calendar year 1979.

Have Ross or Bassey ever dominate the charts ? NO....when inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they named Donna the "diva de tutti dive"...the first true diva of the modern pop era ! Sit down !

Her songs are still played, even though she's no longer alive. After all, they don't just play the songs of living people only. LOL. 🙂

It was "Save The Music" that caused me to go to Minneapolis, MN back in 2005, to see Donna playing at a casino one "Summer" night. Boy was I glad I did! She was phenomenal as usual. We lost a brilliant star in the world of music, when she passed away in 2012! I miss her exceptional voice and the wonderful person/lady she was! It was a privilege!

2 terrific singers ... Donna was a one of a kind voice !

True Diana never had the success as a solo artist - like with the Supremes. She didn't have a gold record as a solo artist until 1980. Donna was a game changer (as Mary J and Lenny Kravitz call her). She was the first female to dominate the Billboard charts, first to repeat having the #1 single and #1 album at the same time., first to have 3 # 1's,, and 5 top 10 and/or 5 top 5 singles in a Calendar year, first to have 2 songs in the top 3. She sold millions of record world wide (the only American artist that sold records in every territory worldwide in the mid to late 70s), and sold 20 millions plus albums and 15 millions singles in the US at the end of the 70's with Casablanca records. After she came through things really changed for all women.

The younger singers want to put a thousand notes in a measure and concoct those ghastly scales, but the older singers can give emotion, heart, etc. by just good old straight singing. Young singers, sing from the heart with conviction and emotion without going up and down those DAMN SCALES!!!

In Joss Stone defense she was just 18 years old. Try to listen to the soul medley from Joss Stone.

Loosing Whitney and Donna in the same year was devastating, these two woman knew how to sing a lyric for the song and Donna just proved that with this song she still had it! That it's just sentimental was it right there!
