    DK64 is a repetitive, torturous slog of a game where you have to play through every single level with every single character to get every single item. It holds the world record for most collectibles in a single game, and that's not a good thing. Finishing that game was hell.

    @Netflixmaster Dont worry. Nintendo knew what they were doing: most of the talent by then have moved on (including the Stamper Bros.). Grabbed by the Ghoulies is proof of this.

  • @kevinfromsales9445

    @kevinfromsales9445

    4 ай бұрын

    @@WhatIsMatter101 It still would've benefitted Nintendo by keeping all of Rares IPs exclusively on Nintendo consoles instead of Xbox. And like most Nintendo fans, I'm certain Rare would've been able to push out quality games with Nintendo's guidance just like with Retro Studios... except Grabbed by the Ghoulies.

  • @WhatIsMatter101

    @WhatIsMatter101

    kevinfromsales9445 Thats logical and makes sense. From a business point of view. But there was an interview with Miyamoto before where he said Nintendo was a Kyoto company, and theres a culture in Kyoto to be trendsetters. After hearing that then finding out they didnt keep Rare's other IPs (which is contrary to the usual modus operandi of western publishers) it made sense. To me at least. Also using the characters by a western game dev would go against their game design philosophy. Theres a vid on how they made Splatoon, the characters, the music it used and how they dressed. That made all the elements feel "organic." Like what characters would make sense shooting ink, or what is associated with paint (grafitti), and what tracks goes well with grafitti (punk).

  • @kevinfromsales9445

    @kevinfromsales9445

    4 ай бұрын

    @@WhatIsMatter101 Yeah, Nintendo is very much based on tradition and I really like that but they sure kept Diddy Kong and Krystal and the entirety of the DKC and Dinosaur Planet lore and characters while not doing much with those. Losing Rare, or at least their IPs, was an epic fail and a wasted opportunity in my opinion. We could've seen Banjo Threeie, Conker and Perfect Dark on the GameCube, Donkey Kong Country 4? And can you imagine something like Kinect and Viva Piñata on the Wii which was already killing it with Wii Sports? Lots of missed chances there. Same goes for Sony not keeping Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Monster Hunter, etc. exclusive and Microsoft for not doing anything at all with the current game companies and games exclusivity they own. Edit: Nintendo also owns Eternal Darkness which is a great game and nothing has come of it ever since the GameCube.

  • @WhatIsMatter101

    @WhatIsMatter101

    4 ай бұрын

    @Kevinfromsales9445 With regards to Eternal Darkness, you should try to find some stuff about its head Denis Dyack. Long story short: DD was boasting bout his closeness to Nintendo heads, then wanted to end their exclusivity with Nintendo after weak sales in GameCube. Then made an ambitious game using new game engine. Complained about the game engine after the game failed and sued Epic games for "unfair practices" for supposedly witholding tech from Silicon Knights, then made a new game engine of their own But ended up getting sued by Epic instead, lost and had gone bankrupt. The reason? Unreal code in SK's game engine and games. Nintendo probably just doesnt wanna deal with people who could put them at a severe disadvantage.

    Nobody seem to mention this... The Eu Version of Donkey Kong Country is different. For Starters, there are no blue or green life balloons there. They are all red ones and they only give one life. Second, the stage Platform Perils that have the invincible gray Krusha enemy, only offer TNT barrels to beat them. On the good side, this makes them awesome since they can only be defeated with an overkill, on the other hand TNT barrels don't roll.

    That was quick! Good thing that you guys made a long video game subject just like you guys used too. DYKG Extra is okay, but someone it can be too overdone. For the next full video game topic, try to feature more non-Nintendo games. There are other video game titles outside from the Nintendo IPs that deserve its spotlight. And just because the game's interest is currently trending, does not mean you need to make a video out of it immediately.

    man I was really hoping that the original 3d models for DKC were still out there but if rare themselves couldn't make out the files for the SNES game I bet that stuff is lost in time.

    I got that VHS tape, but I wasnt a Nintendo Power subscriber. I think I got it because I registered my SNES when I first bought it a few years earlier.

    Candy Kong was almost Honey Kong? That’s almost the exact situation as Fighting Vipers. DKC was a year two before that game, but Candy in that game was named Honey in Japan. Weird coincidence considering Sega and Nintendo were bitter rivals at the time, and Rare being in England, it’s really unlikely that AM2 would have known about it back in Tokyo.

    What about the extra world in the GBA version of DKC3? Was that a thing that they couldn't add in the original or was it a completely new world they made exclusively for the GBA version? I'm really curious about that.

    The GBA remakes get a bit of a bad rep, but you know, when you're on-the-go and can't take a SNES with you, they'll do fine... Also, the 3rd game was actually pretty damn good! I'll actually pick it over the SNES original!
