From an interview, David said they didn't even know what the game was going to be about yet and compsed this as just a like "Yeah you know, here's some bass lines and stuff, get it working." He said Trent Reznor had heard his music from DKC1 and liked it, and that's when he knew he had made it as a musician.

I was 8 when this released and I’m 37 now. There’s a reason I love to see gameplay of these old games and hear the music just like this… it’s because each one of these games.. each one of these soundtracks takes me back to a moment in time. It takes me back to a specific time, and a specific person that I played the game with. Whether it was my father watching me play the game.. or my neighbor Andrew sitting next to me as we play through the entire game. It’s not simply nostalgia to hear soundtracks like this… it’s like we’re warping in a time capsule. Returning to that moment and reliving it. Remembering the scenery, the atmosphere, the smells.. it’s returning to that specific room, in that specific house that we played the game. It can be very happy, or very sad for some of us. These aren’t just games… these are little time capsules. These are part of our brain, part of our hearts.

It takes me back to my childhood best friends basement. His name was Jesse. I haven't talked to him in over 20 years. I think the thing I miss about this is the fact that childhood responsibilities were incredibly small compared to adult responsibilities. I'd love to go back to having easy schoolwork being my only responsibilities.

@@avgyoshi3600 you really want some creeps from ocean games? Try playing Ecco the Dolphin. the original on Genesis manages to portray the mystery and horror of the depths very well, but the 3D versions on PS2 i believe, those ones look extra eerie because of the low draw distance.

It was nice, but it was mostly played on old tvs, some people’s television speakers were not that great (I’m sure there were lucky people/ / upper class) However, this is the first time people hear how it was meant to be heard.

I still play this game almost daily. Im currently 27, I normally dont play anything online with my friends alot, I just want to play this. I still remember being a child at our first home and playing this in the basement. Before I was aware of anxiety and depression, this was the meaning to my existence. I've lost alot of family, and friends over the years, but I will never lose my love for this game. Im so happy and fortunate to see all the other people in the comments who have mutual feelings towards this experience 🖤.

There's an infinite amount of good and bad things happening right now. Whichever one you focus on determines how you feel. You're only getting older and it's time for you to give back to the world. The sooner you can accept that things are changing, the sooner you can clear up your depression and anxiety. When you're young it's all about you receiving things like birthdays, Christmas, fresh experiences, etc. Now that you're older it's time for you to give back to the world. This is spot on perfect it sounds so good. When GameXplain did their DKC 25th anniversary celebration week, one of their audio interviews was with David, and he said Aquatic Ambience he feels like was his best and favorite piece he ever composed for the series. He loved it so much that's why he re-recorded a new version for Tropical Freeze.

I remember when my childhood dog died in 2015. 2 days of shock where I felt nothing, then the depression hit. It gets better but you never forget. I still look at his pictures to this day

I am sorry to hear. My cat died suddenly at 6 years old. She could have lived another 12 years or so. It was unexpected and the vet said she had a heart problem we didn't know about until after we found out she died. I just hoped that she didn't feel pain and i still get heartbroken when i see her pictures and think of how fast she passed without a warning.

I played Subnautica with this on a loop. An absolute game changer.

This song alone is what inspired me to start composing soundtracks at a young age. Nothing to date matches the beauty of this song coming out of the SNES’ most basic 16 bit audio engine. It taught me a musician can make anything no matter how basic the tools they are given.

This song will always be such a banger

Every night, by the glow of my CRT TV screen, under the soft whirr of the ceiling fan, I'd leave my SNES running all night on the pause screen for this level, not regretting one bit the amount of electricity I was wasting. Some of my earliest memories are of playing this game, this is an amazing soundtrack to have etched into my subconscious

I listen to this song every time I go to school. It’s the best feeling

i used to play this game as a kid when snes was still the thing. this song always stood out as my favorite from the series. i stumbled back on it one day as an adult from another person and was like man what is that i feel like i know that one. low and behold it was one of my old safe spaces. so glad it got restored and isnt in terrible audio quality anymore. its a nice one to just come back and listen to sometimes.

That parallax effect with the surface of the water and the ground was so incredible looking when this came out. Game was on another level.

Who else played the first water level over and over again just because of this song? The whole OST for this game is incredible. Super Mario World, Mega Man X, A Link To The Past and these DKC games are the TOPS of SNES music in my opinion.

When I went for a deep scuba Dive in Venuatu the abyss was ringing with this aquatic Ambience in my mind the entire time was making its ambience clear down that deep blue abyss.

the amazing part about this song is the amount of instruments that were used, and not a single one of them sounds bad....everything is so good with timing

My dad when he was a kid would have this level going and turn the tv off so it would only play out the speakers and go to sleep to it. i found a remix of this song a few years back and i put it in a playlist i used to use for sleeping. it's just as relaxing as the original and it's pretty good. do love this version, so nostalgic. i remember my dad busting out the snes one day and letting me and my brother play. it was amazing

There's something mesmerizing about the old donkey Kong country graphics, add the music and you have a dreamlike experience

After 20+ years of dreaming of going to Japan, it’s finally happening in 3 days. My mind is so worried and busy, but this song brings peace and tranquility.

This song and that donkey country scene take me back to when I was 8 years old instantly, how one can travel back in time with a simple detail of phenomenal music!

David wise was reaching into other dimensions to make his music. No other composer cares so much about melody which is the juiciest part of music. And when he can’t deliver that he sets an amazing ambience with nice sounding instruments.

I Remember playing this for hours, with this Magic Music.

It really is incredible that Dave Wise composed such an incredible song (an honestly an entire soundtrack) with such limited technology and storage. I would put this soundtrack up against similar modern day electronic tunes any day of the week.

The original song is better than it needed to be, and you've made it way too perfect

In south Italy we've amazing seabeds, when I go underwater I've this soundtrack in mind, this make it absolutely magic to swim :')

I remember listening to this every weekend in the living room of my family's small Las Vegas apartment at sixteen. I loved good game music back then as much as I do today -- FF6 was another one of my favorites from that time period for the same reason, although Squaresoft hadn't yet fixed the numbering issue and it was still FF3.

I'm thankful for the longer version I never want this song to end. It's one of those pieces that just transports me to another world.

I would go visit my great grandparents house as a kid and sure enough pap was in his study playing this…he would hand me a controller…god does this bring back awesome memories.

The man behind the song was David Wise. Not only did he compose it, he also went through so many steps to compress it just right to make it playable within the SNES's 64kb audio chip without crashing the console (all the instruments in the song ate up so much memory) while keeping the song sounding good. That took real talent.

I have no words to express what i feel about this, You have made my dreams come true with this restoration

Playing D.K as a kid and getting to this level and hearing the song was so surreal and I would hold my breath sometimes lol

It's literally one of those songs that you've LITERALLY never heard before, but somehow, it's extremely familiar I love it ❤

One of my all time favorite games with a killer soundtrack!

he really didn't need to make such a beautiful ost for a monkey game, but he did, david wise made the best soundtrack in gaming history with this one

When I was a kid I use to be scared of 2D games so much.. sometimes I even cried over this type of soundtracks... but sometimes i was silently sucking my finger and comforting myself.

My happy place music. So relaxing. Ever since it came out as a kid I’ve loved this. I’m right back in my room as a kid

This is absolutely beautiful... Like, seriously I downloaded the files and listened to it on my personal setup and it moved me to tears. You my friend are doing some of the best restoration work I've ever heard. Edit: Sent some money your way. Not a ton but you deserve it my guy.

I still remember the day when my father wen back from a business trip in Paris and offered me this game. I wish his boss sent him to Paris more often :D

You kill it with these remasters, find yourself some work my dude. I feel like you would make an outstanding ost for an indie game and beyond. You are obviously inspired by video game music, get out there and do your thing brother!

Composing for an indie game right now

The DKC trilogy will always be my most fond gaming memories, specifically "Diddy Kong's Quest." The people from Rareware came from the astral plains to provide us with an insane soundtrack, as well as an amazing gaming experience. I really feel remorse knowing that popular companies have completely turned from passion. Every song so perfectly portrayed the feel of the level you were progressing.
