A very large number of speedruns are done by exploiting bugs in the game. It's often quite harder to accomplish that than just running through a game the old fashioned way.

I just noticed King K Rool seems to be aware of Bowser's failures against Mario and tried to adapt in order to face Donkey Kong/Diddy. Instead of living in a castle full of lava, he's on a boat surrounded by water and will jump around like Mario as if he thought it was the best way to defeat an opponent.

And then we evolved this terminology, we realized that he kind of failed by the fact that his army was limited, while (with MY factory) We could theoretically create an INFINITE amount of soldiers. As well as possessing most if not all of the DK clans allies on the island. We were originally gonna hypnotize DK, but either A) He was too dumb to understand the music, or B) He was too intelligent. I pick the former TBH

As a kid playing this, I somehow accidentally discovered that Warp after 1-1. I was blown away as I didn't understand what had happened. I thought it was a glitch! Surreal seeing this 15+ years later. Great run, dude!

I was lucky/skilled enough to make it to the next save area after doing the skip on accident, i had that save file on my cartridge for decades... until my kids started playing my SNES. lol... on the plus side, they enjoy the game as much as i did at their age. Plus, its common knowledge about the game these days. so nothing super special to keep in the end.

After playing this for years, I finally beat it 101% on my own (with an insane amount of luck on some stages). The worst level was Platform Perils. So many Game Over screens because of that spawn of Satan level.

ngl, this is possibly one of the funniest videos on the internet something about the idea of dk and diddy glitching their way past levels, and diddy straight up just f l y i n g through the last one made me crack up too hard. and the icing on the cake was cranky being angry afterwards despite literally beating it in under 9 mins

Love the way the player makes DK get kidnapped in the last boss fight for canon consistency and lore continuity

Everyone is talking about 5:30, while I'm admiring the timing of that idle animation with the music at 7:10

The roll jump on platform perils is the most magnificent thing I've ever witnessed. Bloody glorious. It's just fun to see the silly ways speedrunners try to break the game to find the fastest way to do it. And anyone who calls cheating needs to get their eyes checked.

I think when Cranky says at the end of the credits that he finished this entire game with 1 life in less than an hour he was referring to a similar run like this. He used glitches and exploitations to shortcut the game and finish it in a timely manner. ;)

When I was a kid I accidently found a glitch that took me straight from the bend in between level 1 and 2 straight to the master necky battle without all the levels in between which would cut this record down considerably

The warps between the first two levels will take you to level 3-5, which is done here. There are two other warps in the first world which will also take you to that level and one that takes you to 1-2. The first Master Necky fight is in W2 and the one in W6 cannot be warped to. The warp used here in level 3-5 that takes you to 6-2 is the furthest you can warp in the game.

Holy shit this is blowing my mind right now. 20+ years ago when i was pkaying this i somehow glitched over through worlds and had no idea how i did it. This is like a cold case finally solved.

This games has one of the best tracks... for hours in loop I can hear such songs

Despite the glitches, I counted four, I can't deny the skill displayed in this clip. Got lucky with the penultimate boss though, one or two slight stutters but a pretty good run overall nicely done!
