I wonder if David Wise was given a note saying "yeah we need some music for some tree levels" when he wrote this. They must of forgot to mention a giant saw is tearing apart the tree as it chases you to try and kill you, or a hive infested with demon birds.

It's the complete opposite of the SNES song. This must be the happiest tune in the GBA version. Maybe he did that on purpose, since people complained about the SNES counterpart sounding too gloomy.

In all honesty, I grew up with the GBA version of this game, and I'm used to the tree levels being more happy feeling. Obviously, I don't think this track fits entirely with that one... saw level, but I think that it fits everywhere else.

This one always reminds me of these vicious looking enemies to this playful music. Like looking at Lurchins angry going up and down in Sunken Spruce! Or the Nids angrily jumping to this energetic song, XD.

One thing I noticed about the disparity between the SNES and GBA versions' forest levels is that the music isn't all that changed, the color palette did too. If you compare the two games' forest levels, you'll notice that the SNES version's forest levels have darker colors and the forests look completely dead and desolate, whereas the GBA uses brighter colors that have more of an autumny but vibrant feel to them. So both themes fit their respective versions despite the differing takes, it's more a matter of does it seem appropriate for the forests to be dead or vibrant? Personally, I don't think it makes much sense in the lore and story for the forest to be dead, there's no reason for the darker atmosphere. Yeah, it doesn't quite fit Ripsaw Rage, but if anything, that just makes the presence of the sawblade that much more jarring and doesn't belong, so its appearance is much more dramatic and impactful.

People act like ripsaw rage is the only treetop level in the game. This version fits a lot more for the treetop levels than the snes version ever did. Also i think the snes version is too slow for ripsaw rage. Treetop tumble in snes should be the pipes or cavern levels theme is too dark for no reason

How can someone hate on this? It's such a lovely and happy song to listen to. Plus it was created by the genius that made the DKC2 soundtrack. People need to stop being such a bunch of hard asses. Oh and for the record the SNES version is too depressing and I don't like it. Eveline Fischer is a joke compared to David Wise. Nuff said.

  • @Schwarzorn

It's dark, not depressing. Also, plenty of her songs are happy; She has variety. And DKC2's soundtrack (and the entire game) is dark, so I don't don't understand your complaint that dark=bad followed immediately by dark=good.

@@Schwarzorn The snes soundtrack is good in it's own right, but I personally feel it's too gloomy for a game about anthropomorphic monkeys. The first 2 games did have some dark songs, but the overall soundtrack still captured the feel of the games and the environments whereas this game's soundtrack doesn't do that for me. It's *too* dark and ominous for me to enjoy in this game and feels more fitting for a series like Metroid

Guess it's due to the GBA's sound Capabilities since it can't produce very low notes. Had to be reworked. Ask David Wise yourself, he reworked the soundtrack and knows the limits of the GBA.
