Amazing what an artist totally bel;ieveable and beautiful singing in a very eerire production masterful

Lisette Oropesa's vocal and dramatic characterization of Lucia is outstanding.

This is the eeriest and best Lucia mad scene I’ve ever seen and heard. She is now my favorite Lucia…ever. And at 70 years old, I’ve seen and heard a lot of them as this is my favorite opera. (And it has been since I saw it the first time when I was under 5 years old. My older brother played in the opera orchestra and music was our family’s life.)

Ms. Oropesa sings beautifully, and the glass harmonica adds eerieness to the scene, but all that fake blood is too much for me!

She's utterly sublime (and heartbreaking!) in this role! I dare anyone suggest a better Lucia these days! The director has definitely earned his paycheck too, and look at the eerie claps of the choir during the applause!

The fact that she’s doing that sitting down is phenomenal!!!

What about exquisite performance, and what a voice. She took my breath away. ❤

The glass harmonica lends it's eerieness to the scene.

Pure perfection. When I die, this is what I want to hear as I fly off to the heavens.

Lo siento pero nunca podré sacar de mi mente la Lucía de Sutherland la mejor del siglo XX en este rol. Esta interpretación es muy pobre. Musicalmente el director es frío inexpresivo. Tanto o más que la solista que lo único que hace es solfear notas bonitas. Nada de dramatismo ni teatralidad. Y la puesta en escena apesta parece una película de zombies. Joan Sutherland per saecula saeculorum.

Coming here after I've been there - Oropesa is in a league of her own. She was extraordinary and probably the one who saved that production. Staging was watered down and the mad scene felt to me a bit rushed and anticlimatic.

We can all agree that there are other deserving sopranos but only a limited stage. My preference without the acting is leneke

Maybe she will eventually... anyways, MET is not the ultimate opera house to be successful, she has performed there already and audiences demand her all around the globe, no need to have her singing at the Met every so often all her recurrent repertoire.

Not too fond of this staging, but I am delighted the Teatro Real did not stage this opera à la Metropolitan Opera. No pawn shops, no homeless people, no automobiles. Wonderful interpretation and singing. Bravissima.

Malgré le talent des chanteurs, la mise en scène à l'hémoglobines me rebute au plus haut point ! Pauvres chanteurs qui doivent gagner leurs vies et chanter dans de tels décors !!!

À quoi vous attendiez vous? Lucia vient de tuer quelqu'un, elle voit même à un moment son propre fantôme qui (elle le dit dans sa scène d'entrée) est couvert de sang. Évidemment qu'elle allait être couverte de sang surtout qu'à l'époque du grand opéra à l'italienne on hésite pas ni avec le sang ni avec les explosions.

This naturalism with blood is completely superfluous here. The singer must create an image with her voice and musical means. The director of this scene has bad taste.And the singer is wonderful!

Cammarano's libretto locks Lucia's setting to 16th century Scotland...anything else is ridiculous. This cast certainly deserved better. Lucia Ashton not Lizzie Borden!

Well, this XVIth century Scotland music sung in pure Scotish language by a Scotish sopran deserves a Scotish XVIth century scenario and costumes as well.

@@robert111k We should even ban this opera to be played but in Lammermoor and we should kill the actor that plays Arturo for real, because it is written in the libretto that she kills him. We must always follow and stay true to the libretto!!

Nadine non e' un soprano lirico Lisette e' perfetta in Lucia😊

Great voice, sublime technique, zero emotion. Plus, the staging was ridiculous at least.

This is another sign of how far the standards in opera is fallen. This performance is average.

Seré la única voz que se aparta de la opinión del resto en este foro. Horroroso. La dirección musical es exasperantemente mala. Fría, inexpresiva. No dice nada. La solista igual o peor. Se solaza en su bella voz y capacidad técnica. Nada de dramatismo ni teatralidad. El vestuario da asco. No es la época del verismo. Es bel canto. Parece una película de zombies. El regista en su afán de morbo nos se da cuenta que ella que no es la víctima está más ensangrentada que Arthur. Es asqueroso. A años luz de Callas, Caballé (con todo que no tenía coloratura y la canta fiel a la partitura sin gorgoritos) y desde luego, cuan lejos de Sutherland la mejor Lucia de todo el siglo XX.

Nonsense. Nobody in history compares to Lisette Oropesa. I saw her Lucia at the Royal Opera House (her debut there) three times. She got a full standing ovation - which English audiences almost never give - every time. See her in the flesh.

@@MrRiceMann Los públicos hoy lo aplauden todo. Hasta los desastres. Y también esas horrendas puestas en escenas que deforman totalmente la ópera. ¿No aplauden aún a la Netrebko con todo que tiene la voz destrozada? Oropesa está a milenios luz de la Lucia de Joan Sutherland. Y creo que esta última aún será insuperable por mucho tiempo.

@@MrRiceMann Seguramente usted no estuvo o no ha escuchado la grabación del debut de Sutherland en este mismo rol y en el mismo Covent Garden en 1959. Un debut y ovación que convirtieron a la Sutherland en un fenómeno mundial. Creo que no puede hablar de "como nunca se vió antes".

@@MrRiceMann Tratar de ser menos mediático y escuchar a las viejas glorias del pasado. Decir que Oropesa es lo mejor nunca visto es lo mismo que dijeron de Netrebko y Villazón en su momento. Decir eso es un exabrupto que deja de forma insolente por fuera a grandes divas como Caballé, Price, Norman, Janowitz, Popp, Freni, De los Ángeles, Marton, Dimitrova, Te Kanawa, Gwineth Jones, Schwarzkopf, Kabaivanska, Scotto, Gencer, Cerquetti, Stella, Callas (con todo que no soy callista), Tebaldi, Bumbry, Nilsson, Behrens y un muy extenso etc.

Por fin una voz con cordura, coincido absolutamente en TODO; la "puesta" es un incordio tras otro, pretenciosa, absurda, grotesca...un desastre. Leí en una de sus respuestas que no es "Callista" 😁, yo tampoco, apenas la soporto. Sutherland inigualable. Saludos desde Buenos Aires 👋.
