I used to get horse crackers , bottle rockets , and even remember getting these 1.50-1.75” cylinder shaped salutes . I remember specifically when I was 14 years old I got them from a local guy without any tube, I buried an old tube from the vacuum cleaning attachments, lit the salute dropped it in the tube and it shot up about 30” in the air and made a big ass boom

A lot of people say fireworks now are a lot worse than they used to be. I don't necessarily think this is the case. I think the processes and focuses in these products has changed. The market until recently has said "we want more color," so the products spent the past couple decades enhancing color research. As a result, a lot of the bang old products had likely had to be sacrificed. Recently, however, the market has re-entered the "We want BOOM" phase and so fireworks are seeing, in my opinion, a substantial increase in volume, especially shells. However, we are also seeing a lot of color, a lot of experimentation in the industry unlike ever before. This has led to a lot of unique color combinations, unique effects, and most importantly, a great balance in very loud burst, large burst, and great color in most products on the market today. At the very least, I have good faith this industry will maintain its production of high-quality fireworks for decades if not centuries into the future. Though many Americans like to pretend they know better, China knows what they're doing with fireworks arguably more than anyone else in the world. They invented them, they sold them to us. I feel in a way we need to return the favor; invent more efficient ways to make fireworks explode bigger with less powder, better color with less expensive ingredients, and really maximize the 60 gram shell limit, 500g cake limits, and so on. Until we do, I don't feel as if Americans thank these workers hardly enough for all they do. Without them, we wouldn't have an awesome way to celebrate our country's independence. It's thanks to them, the workers, that we can have videos like this in the first place. Without them, there would be no videos like this, and fireworks as we know them today likely wouldn't exist!

Another change many do not consider, are the legal changes and enviromental changes in regarsd to fireworks. Diffrent chemicals which are no longer allowed in fireworks and also changes in how loud they may sound, how many sparks and ambers they may spread to prevent fire and so on.

They are worse than they used to be. No reason to BS about it. All you need to do is place a Horse bottle rocket from 45 years ago next to whatever brand now. Use a ruler, a micrometer, a precision scale, and an Xacto knife. The difference is so great as to be obvious. Examine next a modern cracker next to a 1975 Thunderbomb.next. The comparison is stark. The modern ones all have ugly sawed off edges, and plaster plugs in place of hand crimping. The modern labels are all cheap lithographs on heavily sized paper. The art work on the labels has gone to hell as well. I could go on, but why?

@@OldJoeCurwen yeah I think I'm moving out of this hobby at this point over the issues even the... behind the curtain stuff is having. It's astounding to me how even the "off-the-market" products aren't as good as some of the same items 3 years prior, which weren't as good as items 3 or 4 years before them. Or, if they are excellent, they die off in a year or two or they cost so god damn much it's not even worth investing.

A lot of it now is actually drawn here in the US, the images are then sent to CHina to be printed on the product or are strapped on at US warehouses when they arrive. In a lot of ways yes, I too wish they had that cheesy-ass chinese box art, at least on some items.
