Done Trucking Time To Mow More Hay & Figure Out Spraying Corn

Join along as we finish manure hauling for a couple of days. Then a fall through of animals coming to the farm so we make the choice to mow the rest of the pasture with the fixed mower. Wrapping up mowing and going to get our spray program ready to go. Thanks for watching along.

    I used to have a "Pizza and Beer" party with back pack sprayers and worked on those bull thistles with Roundup, you gotta get them or they spread and will make the hay unsellable because of damage to mouths of livestock takes a couple of years I had a quad with sprayer eventually and did it myself but those thistles are like bombs to value of hay

    @@DuffyAg I know why you want one. Pull behind runs over your corn sometimes I’m guessing? Rotators are good sprayers, I’ve had a couple. Still, that higher center of gravity and water sloshing might be fun on your hills if they are as steep as they look. All you can do is try it and see. If you can, I’d get one with the height sense on the boom or put it on an aftermarket.

Right on Cummins manual it was recommended to replace bearings every 250-300k miles on a Big Cam to try to make them last and they still rarely made it past 800k without melting piston breaking cranks electrolysis on liner. CAT 3406B much better reliable engine N14 more reliable Detroit 60 series definitely a lot more reliable. For what he has spent could have upgraded to better engine.

  • @Otherrandomguy42

    I'm far from a Cummins hater I think the n14 ( especially the red top celect) and ISX Cummins are pretty good engines the problem with the big cam is just like he some said parts are obsolete. 😂😂 Really not a lot of logic and dump in 25 or $30,000 to do an engine overhaul in an old big cam. And your big cams not going to walk over any Detroit engine when it's sitting waiting for parts for 8 or 10 months is it that's the point he rebuilt an obsolete engine. So say 5 years time something could go wrong and the truck could sit around and wait for parts again for another year😂😂. And for all he's ever going to do with that truck an old 60 series has lots of power to get him through. The only reason I recommend the 60 series Detroit is because it's far and away the cheapest engine he could buy to put in that truck. Ideally an n14 Red top select Cummins. But that with paperwork to prove it at an engine overhaul say a couple hundred thousand miles ago it's going to be $20 or $25000 minimum. I mean sure you can take a chance and buy one that doesn't have any paperwork to prove an engine overhaul but then if it needs one, there's another $40,000 bill cuz that's around what it cost to overhaul a red top select right now.

  • @Otherrandomguy42

    @Otherrandomguy42

    @@codyfoster7981😂😂. You in here crybaby being like your ECM failure in a Detroit 60 series is the norm that would be the very rare exception. I got a buddy that runs a bunch of trucks. We only have two here on the farm old international eagles that we now have cat engines in both of them. But I have a buddy who's in the trucking business he is somewhere between 15 and 20 trucks. And the engine that has made him more money than any other was Detroit 60 series built from 1990 to 2000. He keeps track of the cost of repairs on every single engine in every truck every year. His favorite engine is a Cat 3406 6nz but Chris sure can't afford one of those right now coming out of an old truck somewhere that's got paperwork to prove it was rebuilt a couple hundred thousand miles ago. Cuz you're going to pay about $40,000 for it. And if it doesn't have paperwork to prove a rebuild you don't touch it because if you have to do a rebuild after you bought it that's about $50 to 55,000 right now.
