Datt Ding vom Rhing It is also due to the financial burden of NATO, NATO membership is pretty expensive. But yes unfortunately sharing a long border with Russia is a consideration as well. Not just from a military perspective, also from a trade and diplomatic one. Very likely that Finland will join at some point though. I think Trumps presidency has also reflected badly on NATOs credibility so European countries are not too eager to join in just now.
