Donald O'Connor 1959 TV version of "Make 'em Laugh"

Ойын-сауық

In this Gene Kelly TV Special, Donald O'Connor performs a version of his famous "Make 'em Laugh" dance number from 1952's "Singin' in the Rain". The only thing is, it's a different song! (This time called, "Smile, Darn You, Smile"). Also featured is Hal Smith (later "Otis the drunk" from The Andy Griffith Show). First broadcast November 21, 1959.

Truly amazing talent and energy. Donald was in the same class of awesome talent as Fred and Gene. their equal in both song and dance.

The best part of these old programs is the fact that no obscenities are used. It's nice not to listen to vulgarity for the purpose of vulgarity.

He was born in 1925, so he would have been 43 or 44 here - yet he could still do a cartwheel and a pratfall with that amazing agility. Remarkable.

2:23 Donald O’Connor’s choreography from 1952’s Singin’ in the Rain musical dance number Make ‘Em Laugh was rewritten into this 1959 TV version, with a new different song called “Smile, Darn You, Smile”.

Have all of these color NBC Spectaculars been restored and released? I hope so. This was real TV. And it was very early color TV.

I was honored in meeting and dance a small dance on stage with him. He was at a fundraiser my mother had taken me to. I didn't make a big thing of it at the time I was only 12 years old and didn't know who he was at the time. If I would've known I probably would've been so excited but I still feel blessed I got to meet and dance with him. I wish I had a video of it but it was before the small recording devices. RIP Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelly who was in the beginning of this video.
