Don't waste your money on a GT350R buy a 2019-2020 GT350 instead

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we have a 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350 in Kona Blue. For 2019 the GT350 received some cool upgrades sharing things from both the GT500 and GT350R which leads to the question......is the GT350R worth the extra money?

    I've always loved that story about the naming of the GT350/500. I heard it told with Carroll himself in attendance at a SAAC banquet in 2005. The following part of the story I quote constantly because it's relevant to so many things in life. He was asked at some point how he could build such amazing cars with such passion and attention to detail and then put in so little effort naming them when other cars of the day had cool exciting names like Thunderbird and so forth. He said "If it's a good car the name doesn't matter and if it's a bad car the name won't save it".

    I have a non R GT350. It is a blast to drive and I love it to death. In my mind the standard model is a street car you can take to the track and the R is a track car you can take to the street. Can't go wrong either way.

    Great review. Watching this video one year later is great because it has aged like fine wine. Due to all the mark ups and everything, all cars are more expensive but a used GT350 with 4k miles or less don’t go for less than 70k. Great advice.... getting my 2020 delivered up here to Northern Ontario after it went to Shelby American and became a Signature Edition... well worth the $9995 seeing they are only doing 100 units per year for the 350 and the 350R... and the engine recalls... I am lucky.. mine was ordered in Nov 2019 and delivered February 2020. December 2019 is when the recall motors were built. Before you buy one, get the VIN and ask a Ford Dealer to look it up... I agree, I bought my new 2020 in February of 2021 right before the market went crazy, I even got it below msrp... What a deal! I think what you're really saying by "Track Focus" is overall balance. And yeah, it feels so great to drive such a finely tuned car. Easy fix on the tramlining: just set the steering to comfort mode when the pavement is rutted. Otherwise, it's actually designed that way to provide the ultimate steering feedback, part of the reason the magazines gave it the edge over the pricey Europeans and why it's so communicative on the track.

  • @Carsideration

    @Carsideration

    2 жыл бұрын

    You nailed it! Prices are crazzzyy right now. This is my dads car. We put new tires on it, some PZ4s and and the tramlining has stopped. For whatever reason the Sport Cup 2s were just all over the place. Clearly they are a more aggressive tires and better in absolute dry traction but the PZ4s have been a good addition. A lot quieter with road noise and overall comfort. My dad is never going to track it so the PZ4 just fits his driving habits better.

    Great review. Makes want to go drive mine right now lol. Ford gave the engineers carte blanche in the development of this car and they knocked it out of the park. I was never a huge mustang because I've always been a fan of cars that can handle the turns and not focused on cars that go fast in a straight line. Then this mustang came out ( i know i know, it's a cobra not a mustang lol) and i was in awe of it. The first video i ever seen was when it first came out and Prost (i think that's his name) drove it and reviewed it. It became my dream car, i had to have one. For the next 6yrs i watched and read every thing that was out there about the gt350. In July of 2022 i bought a 2020 with only 3100 miles on it. I was love right away. I drove it for a few months before deleting the resonators just so i could appreciate the difference. It really woke the exhaust up. These cars sound so fuckin good. I really think it's the best looking mustang/cobra ever made. People are always looking at it, giving me a thumbs up, people taking pics of it, asking about it etc. I walked out of petsmart one and a guy and his gf were taking selfies with it and posing with it lol. It looks special and people that know nothing about cars know it's special just by the way it looks. Low, wide, the spoiler and the angry looking front end. So well designed. Sorry so long lol i could talk about cars for hours

    Ohh that is a hard one. I would probably have to say the GT500. I've driven a GT and obviously a GT350 and the GT350 is way more fun to drive. I think GT350 v GT350R you wouldn't really notice unless you were on a track to feel the advantage of the carbon fiber wheels and the unsprung weight advantage. I haven't driven the new GT500 yet but I would guess it has to be the most fun to drive and of course it is going to be the fastest.

    Curious about the argument of the engine differences between the pre ‘19 GT350’s and 350R’s. Ford said there were no differences between them but then with the Gen 2 motor, it said the regular 350’s got the R’s motor and made a big deal about it. Argues the point that prior to ‘19 they WERE different!

    Lately I've been perusing YT bcuz I recently learned that 2020 will be the last year for the GT350(R). I really appreciate your feedback buddy (discounting your obvious Shelby fanboy syndrome). I have it too but for BMW's (I currently own an M2 Comp but like a freak'n moron, I got the DCT & really wish I just bought a manual). BMW totally messed up the design for the 2021 M3 & M4 w/ those hideous beaver teeth grills. Thus I'm shopping for a manual canyon carver. I don't really do track days so your GT 350 is intriguing (as long as Ford isn't charging over Msrp). My M2C only has 2800miles & has never spent a night outside of the garage. I broke my back after they closed the gyms & had a major mishap on Mtn bike. So I've been staring at my car in the garage for nearly a year. (if anyone's interested in a DCT M2Comp lmk) I live near Charlotte NC. Anyway, thank you for your thoughts & input on the GT350. My M2C might take u on a track. No. GT350R if you can. Used price for both are within $10-20k. If you try to buy the wheels and the spoiler and the front splitter, you would spend $20k or so new. With the thicker anti-roll bars and springs, you don’t really need to lower the car. It can put down 1.11g on stock setup. The GT350R stock does 0-60 in 3.9s vs 4.2s. Mostly because of the tires and the 15 pounds per wheel weight savings. That and you’ll have a GT350 that will keep value better in the long run.

    Watching an interview with some GT350 Ford designers and they said the 2019/2020 GT350 got some interesting upgrades. They changed the rear wing spoiler with the Gurney Flap for more downforce, tires (cup2), re-tuned the MagneRide system, they closed a little bit the front grille (like in the R models) to avoid front lift, bigger stabilizer bar in the rear, re-tuned the brakes, re-tuned the ABS software to avoid sliding in corners, they used the GT500 block engine (2020 models, not sure in 2019s). Why "Rev-match"? .... since mid 1960's, most standard/manual shift cars, made in America ... come factory equipped with syncro mesh transmission. Rev-matching is redundant. It still wouldn’t be able to beat my M3 tho. I know it handles better then the 5.0 mustang GT but it’s still long and heavy. If you try to run after me in that 350 I would be able to outrun you because the M3 is lighter, smaller, it has more stopping power and it handles like a dream. If I slam on my brakes and make a quick U turn or weave in and out of traffic, I’d lose that 350 hands down. I would completely vanish.
