We're in Las Terrenas, Samana in the Dominican Republic, don't come here unless you want empty beaches, riding around on an ATV, amazing sunsets and great places to stay near to the beach. Las Terreras is really paradise and we're letting you know why.
We visit beaches in Portillo and drive around on our ATV rental. For lunch we stop at Queue de Castor, which does tacos on Canadian Beavertails (maps.app.goo.gl/qhAkodEoTBgvd.... We later take you to our apartment rental and then head to Playa Ballenas for sunset at Eden Beach Club.

Hellooo from Belgium, been there in November but unfortunately the weather was no too good anyway, we really loved this place and had a long walk along Playa Las Ballenas, really huge beach and so peacefull. We also been there on a Friday and Saturday, was really quiet in terms of tourists. This Island is full of beautiful places to see. Can't wait to be there again in several days 😍🤩🌴 Loved your video, again full of good informations and advices, keep on doing this and making us dream.

I enjoy watching your videos. You are both very informative. Also, for anyone reading this and having been to the Dom. Republic 34 times myself, I will confirm that Trevor and Anna's information is ACCURATE, which is important. I had to smile when you mentioned in a previous Las Terrenas video that someone was a bit snarky that you keep L.T. low profile. That happened to me as well. I was having coffee with my wife, in disbelief that I had bought a Le Monde newspaper. I made a comment that I couldn't wait to tell my friends that they needed to know about the tony French enclave. At that moment a French man came over to our table and said, "No, don't tell anyone about Las Terrenas. We don't want that." And he told me sternly too. Nice beaches, relaxed atmosphere, just be a little low key around the French, lol. Great job, both of you!!

*Samana has always had interesting history:* _"...Samanas history of cultural interactions began in 1493. The first hostile encounter between Europe and the Western Hemisphere took place on January 12, 1493, when an army of Taino Indians shot with bone-tipped arrows at Christopher Columbus’ ship._ _The site where this happened is called the Gulf of Arrows or Bahia de las Flechas.” (Columbus named it.) It is three miles east of the city of Samana. It has no sign to mark it, but the local people know where it is._ _Pirates lived here until the city of Santa Barbara de Samana was founded in 1756 by people from the Canary Islands who were moved by the Spanish government from there to Samana to keep the British from settling in Samana._ _Napoleon Bonaparte wanted to build a capital for his New World Empire in Samana. He had plans drawn up for a new city there to be called Napoleon City, but the British came in and prevented him from building it._ _In addition, Napoleon became involved in wars in Europe, so he gave up this plan. In 1822, Haiti invaded the Dominican Republic and occupied it for twenty-two years._ _It was a bloody occupation._ _The most important event in the development of Samana occurred about this time. Haiti’s leader, Jean Pierre Boyer, made contact with abolitionist groups in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States and paid money for them to send to Samana by ship all the freed slaves they could._ _He also paid for their resettlement in Samana. Boyer said he wanted to help the slaves obtain their freedom, but the Dominicans said Boyer wanted to repopulate this area over which he had taken control with people who would support him._ _Nearly six thousand former slaves made the voyage from the United States to the Dominican Republic. Many died in Samana or returned to the United States because they could not adjust to the changes in the climate and culture they found in Samana. About two thousand of them stayed in Samana and prospered._ _These immigrants retained their cultural traditions. They ran their own schools, paying for the importation of English teachers, and maintained Protestant churches (primarily Methodist). Rafael Trujillo, who was dictator of the Dominican Republic from 1930-1938 and 1942-1952, did not like the cultural independence of Samana._ _He introduced the Spanish language into Samana and forced the people to speak it. Anyone heard speaking English was publicly beaten by armed men._ _Most of the people in Samana today are bilingual. The English spoken is colloquial English that was spoken by the slaves in the southern United States a century ago..._ _In 1824 a ship, the Turtle Dove, filled with freed slaves from the United States (slaves who had escaped from the southern part of the United States and run away to the northern part of the United States) left from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (a state in the northern part of the United States)._ _The ship was purchased by two Protestant sisters named Freeman who were of the Quaker Protestant religious faith._ _The ship was sailing to Liberia, a country in West Africa founded by freed American slaves in 1820. There was a big rainstorm in the Atlantic Ocean in front of Las Terrenas and the ship sank. The freed slaves swam to Las Terrenas._ _They spoke English. Their great grandchildren still live in Las Terrenas and they speak English. They are called cocolos._ _On Sunday, you may attend a religious service at an African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in the village of El Limon near Las Terrenas. There you will hear people singing American spiritual hymns in English."_

It was not founded by Italians but rather indigenous Dominicans ; then English went there.. and some Other migration from France, canada and Italy . Samana was always a small fish village and many Santo Domingo residents moved there by an order of an ex president Leónidas Trujillo. It was very rural back in the days.

unfortunately for sellers homes in Cabarete have been on the market for years thus not selling and they are going down as a result , so like in Las Terrenas don't pay the drastic prices and they will eventually come down to realistic prices. The streets in Cabarete are improving so hopefully at some point they will have street with sidewalks that are walkable. Great video.

For example the one you guys are staying in says u have to pay after 20 kilos at 15 DR pesos per Kilo. Do you know what that works out to be? And is 20 kilos the average used in a month? I mean I’d be paranoid about what my bill would be. Is there a counter you can look at to see how much you’ve used?

Hey Trever, how come you never try Bohemia. Personally, l think Bohemia is the best beer l ever tasted in my whole life. When l go to the DR l only drink Dominican Bohemia, simply the best and it’s a bit cheaper than Presidente. Can you give Bohemia another chance?

I've had Bohemia many times.. maybe just not on camera haha. I tend to like lighter beers in hot weather though - Trevor

I am German and nothing beats presidente!! ❤ by far my faivorite beer, the presidente light is amazing and I even prefer it to the normal most days! Presidente is like a German Pilsener so fresh and refreshing on hot days! Fun fact the presidents was created by a German brewmaster originally just for the president of the Dominican Republic - hence the name. Bohemia is too heavy for my taste more like a lager and gives me headache next day… presidente never does! ❤

@@pilsatortube I've been drinking Bohemia for a long time every time I go to Dominican Republic. I do try Presidente as well, but my first choice is Bohemia. Yes, its a bit stronger, but it test great. I see a lot of Canadian drinking Bohemia in Cabarete and Las Terrenas as well.

According to the history I read USA President Ulysses Grant was going to annex the DR after the emancipation of slave but was blocked by one us senator thought many blacks settled in Samana. I never heard of Italian settlers

Nope! Not at all. It’s low season after Easter. Haiti’s situation doesn’t affect DR. Again, two different countries.
