I just got 3 different varieties of tomato from 2008 to germinate and the seedlings look fine. The MIgardener guy from KZread got 87 year old seed to grow.

Things that hurt my heart: Buying dirt Tossing dirt Tossing nursery containers Buying rocks + boulders for landscaping Tossing seeds away after the expiration date When my neighbor mows after I do and their line is funKed up 😭

This summer I was able to germinate a 22 year old Purple Hyacinth Bean seed. I kept the packet all these years waiting for the right place to grow this vine once more. This was the year. Sadly of the 6 I planted, only one came up and is strong and healthy and nearing the time to bud. 👍🙂 P.S. my favorite plant is Morning Glory, over the years I have planted many long expired seeds of different types and colors with 50-60% success. I currently have purples, pinks and some heavenly blues climbing and doing well. Will start to see blooms in 3-4 weeks- fingers crossed. I had a small potted shrub which died but I kept it's "skeleton" in the pot and planted some pink m.g.'s around the base of the branches. Now I have a morning glory shrub!😊 Yes, I am partial to vine plants. Also sunflowers, but I'm all out of my saved seeds. I will return to sunflowers next year. (Budget constraints😔)

@@GardeningknowhowIt's a bit like gambling. Sometimes the house wins with a surprise bloom. 😀

Isn’t that morning glory is super invasive? I planted one, just one, last year. I was diligent to deadheading in order to control seeds from developing. This spring I see soooo many seedlings pop up; much worse than mint spreading in the ground. Oh boy, I have a task to do to pull out all of them (morning glory).

Very good video. Sometimes, especially with smaller seeds, I have trouble getting them out of the paper towel. Any ideas?

Thank you for the help! I bought a mix of 90 different seeds for 1,5 € (normal price 69 €) and I was worried that no seed would germinate.

I have the same attitude: expiration dates are not to be believed and there's no harm in trying. Does it make any difference that all of these are technically _fruits_ rather than veg?

Supposedly if you keep seeds in the freezer, they will keep (germinate) indefinitely.

    Shouldn't you presoak them first?

Presoaking seeds is beneficial but not necessary for these particular types.

Hi, thanks for the video. I've got some really old tomato seeds that have been refrigerated that I'm going to try. I'd like to know what the planting cell-pak tray is you're using. It looks good and I might want to order one.

I just planted some Giant Italian Paste tomato seeds that are at least 25 years old. Out of 18, 11 came up. Can wait to guide their growth until garden time.
