Bees only gain an additional 10 damage, including the Bee Queen, so things are not as extreme as we imagined and that kinda sucks actually. One time sanity hits are still a thing all around which is still kinda odd even if they make sense at the end of the day. No, other survivors cannot use Walter's slingshot. Figured that would be obvious considering how making it available to everyone would defeat the purpose. That said, everyone can use the portable tent which is nice. Campfire stories stack and apparently don't get interrupted in caves (likely will be fixed eventually) so have fun there, but just add this to the list of sanity things that Walter does better than Maxwell - a once, literal God... He apparently cannot adopt any other pet which is actually a nice touch. Woby be jealous! :D There are some nuances with Walter obviously, some of which I simply did not wish to spoil cause they may be among the best that he has to offer and discovering them yourselves will be a breath of fresh air. To provide some hints however, perhaps eating some pink stuff and examining particular, fiery and or beaver-ery characters could be fun. As for how I feel about him overall, at least initially, is that he is a beginner friendly character, a support and easy-mode engaged all around - we all guessed that one back when we first heard about him. I am all for something like that and I am happy to see many taking to him already, that said I still feel like he is all over the place. His perks are thrown together, the ones that should feel natural (the ones connected to his scouting background) don't and the sanity thing is random, far reaching and just doesn't fit well - it's like they forced it all. I wholeheartedly believe that they could've made him a beginner friendly character while maintaining his theme of being a scout with survivalist training all the while just giving him an affinity to ranged combat. I have details and have shared them before obviously however if folk want me to take him and darn near completely alter him with my ideas then perhaps I can make another discussion video - let me know. For now, enjoy him - even if he is way too easy for some of us out here. My only concern is that eventually he will get easy for most and then be left in the dust by the rest of the crew. Not only that, easy characters lose their appeal quickly once the initial hype wears down... I hope not and we shall see cause I do enjoy him and Woby, I think they can fit. They just need some tweaks... perhaps more than some but what have you. That slingshot ammo though, the potential is pretty high.

My idea is that someone had noticed a lack of Evergreens in Canada and caught sight of the Werebeaver. What n Walter’s map, it said “cursed.” That leads me to believe that someone possibly could have SEEN Woodie transform.

And I found out if you put the eyebone in Wobby you basically have a train following you everywhere uppon death

So I guess he was looking for a were beaver (unaware that it was Woodie) and went to his house. I guess that's also how Woodie got taken to the constant; he turned on the radio and got sucked in. I also dont think he's beginner. Simple maybe but I just wasted lots of time trying to make him work for me and he doesnt. No sanity drain sounds good on paper but we are going to fight and 1 hit will drain your sanity forever on 20dmg if you dont heal. Slingshot is great vs 1ennemy. It is way too slow to deal with multiple ennemies. And because any hits gets you insane you have to deal with nightmare creatures all the time. I dont know I was excited for him, passed 5 days looking for the orb to switch to him. And I really really hate him, I did try the ruins with him. Damn! Now trying to gather a purple gem to try wolfgang instead. But keep wasting my time cuz I keep dying. Im no pro though. I started a month ago. That's why I think he is not that noob friendly.

I love the character a lot, his design and some of his mechanics really make him adorable. According to his sanity mechanics, I guess he doesn't get any kind of sanity drain while wearing dark armor or dark sword right ?

The slingshot is also great for killing tentacles! all you need is 3 rocks, also i didn't know that the pellets stacked to 60, thats very good.

I LOVE his storytelling feature. It's so cute!

I played last night with someone in the game as walter, when they came riding on their dog I thought it was a Beefalo with a different skin lol

I dont generally play too much dont starve together these days, but I am still a huge fan of the series and tune into your videos quite frequently. Thanks for the uploads chief, you make great content. Also, this character seems pretty strong to me, the drawbacks seem like they could be pretty rough but in the right hands, he seems like he could be a monster.

Walter is everything I want to be. Im often very easily frightened and I dont have very strong mental health but Ive always wanted to be like Walter. Having a constant companion around, being able to shoot from long range, not getting scared of everything, being able to talk for hours on end and it gives a positive affect, having freckles. He’s literally everything I want that I don’t have.

But wait , Maxy say he also is allergic to bees when he examines grumble bees from bee queen why doesn't he take more damage Could it be magic?

I actually feel like Walter's Character makes sense. He is naturally fearless because he's a kid. This is also why his sanity is fragile, kids tend to get scared easier and don't like getting hurt. I think kids also don't care much for clothes, which is why Walter is not affected by them. His allergy to bees is also really cool and adds character to Walter.

I feel like they added too many abilities. Like, the campfire cooking, the no sanity clothing, sometimes the bee thing, I feel like he has too much to go with him. Like, imagine if Wilson was made today. He’d probably have something like ‘increased science crafting speed’ and ‘knows some of the science machine recipies’ or ‘can groom his beard if he has one to gain sanity’. I love klei a lot, but I feel like we haven’t had a simple character in a while.

I really love his character, so odd and innocent, really cute! I also think he is well thought and that his sanity loss relates to him being hurt due to the fact that he seems quite sensitive and being damaged superficially has an effect on him internally (psychologically).

Ngl I love him so much (always wanted a ranged character) but he kinda feels half-baked as the rest of his kit is way too many thrown together bonuses and downsides

I do believe that Walter has the chance to not only be a unique and exciting character, but one that brings challenge and a different play style. Although Wendy already has the perk of being weak, Walter would benefit from a severe damage reduction to his melee swings. This would show the new players how Walter should be played; as someone who should stay back and not attract a lot of attention. You do bring up a good point about how his disability to gain sanity from clothes is redundant seeing how he would just gain sanity from sleep, but I believe they should make this an even more important part of his kit. Sleeping is widely ignored in DST, and if he gained more health and sanity from doing it, it would not only give purpose to sleeping, but also to his portable tent. Make this perk more drastic and make it the ONLY way he can gain sanity (Of course not including campfire stories.) This would make being hit be much more of a detriment, seeing how he could no longer eat cooked cactus and some pierogis to completely ignore his downside. Walter should be classified as the class that is a good team player, but one that needs to stay cautious.

The idea that he could wield a dark sword with no penalties to sanity while maintaining damage levels defeats the purpose of expanding on a ranged character. The idea that all his sanity stuff just seems so forced leaves an off feeling about his character overall. The idea that next to nothing about his obvious scouting background was expanded upon enough to mean anything shows a lack of thought, creativity and relevance. It's strange, I like him and the concept but almost every bit of him missed the mark by just a hair however each miss adds up to, well, this.

What’s interesting is that he knows about the werebeaver! This kid is my favorite character now, for some reason. I wonder if he knows one of the characters, hence why he knows about werebeavers. He doesn’t know about the radio, but he knows about the werebeaver, which is strange. Who lived in the cabin, that ‘might have answers’? How would the kid know about them??

I love this character! Even if he seems unbalanced, that's ok, some characters can be easier than others. I love his design and perks, and his downsides. Haven't gone on DST in a while but I might head back on.

I was like "oh there is a new caracter in dst" and immediatly after "BEARD I WANNA KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM"

I wanna see that lines about Woody and his werebeaver form from Walter

This entire character feels like a mod, the character design and all his attributes.

I wonder... In the trailer for "the fearless" he's looking for the wharebever, so if you get woody and turn him in to the wharebever, what whould the scout say? P.s. don't know much about the multiplayer thing so hope you can examine other characters.

I would love teleporting rounds or turf round you need turf and and rocks and it would stun enimes

I was also surprised that they were no stun rounds or mechanic of any sort, seems appropriate for a slingshot.

@@TheBeard777 stun rounds, fire rounds, confusion rounds, blind rounds, hell why not lightning rounds (hit the target which gets struck by the lightning with slight delay), poison rounds, maybe some crazier things like shadow rounds (target hit gets attacked by shadow creatures), bee rounds (you know like bee trap just in projectile form) etc etc

Look I love Walter but he seems like a beta character, he's way to unbalanced. The buffs out do the debuffs by way too big of a margin

But buffs outdoing debuffs is a thing with most DST characters...

He’s the best solely for having The Adventure Zone reference outfit with his Boy Detective.

I really like the idea of this character! I may jump back into the game to use him!

Saying "Hollow knight" until Beard finishes it. Day 116

He doesn't seem like a survivalist because everyone is already used to being survivalists in-game already! The fact that he's over-equipped actually lends to the fact that he's a survivalist, prepared for danger from the very start!

The fact that he's not survivalist makes him a perfect scout I think. With the exception of Eagle scouts most of the ones I knew, myself included, only really learned how to make a campfire, tie a few knots, and generally just enjoyed being outside. We'd never last a day in the woods with nothing.

I feel like Walter will be used for mainly 2 things. 1: Ranged DPS for certain bosses. Perhaps Fuelweaver if he waits outside the gates and shoots him from beyond the walls, or for other enemies like the water based mobs. 2: Nightmare fuel farm. If he doesn't gain sanity from clothing and loses sanity while he's damaged. Just have him be at X amount of health below his max and let him slingshot nightmares from time to time. The sanity he regains from killing one would just be leveled out by his decrease due to low health. So as long as he stays damaged but doesn't die, he can just keep firing off marble pellets at the nightmares like a sentry turret. I would also like to see a bunch of you guys try to fight bosses as nothing but Walters. Just a machine gun volley of pellets flying at anything you guys attack.

This new character is just amazing. I never thought that Klei would ever introduce a god damn ranger into the game. I´d just change a little thing: Instead of not getting any sanity boosts for wearing certain clothes, it would be better if those could only make Walter´s sanity stable when below 100% HP, so the player is not forced to cook health-recover food all day to make sanity stop draining.

It iis like that now. His sanity dops down to a minimum amount depending on how much health is missing.

For all intents and purposes, Walter is the only character with access to a gun, and I don't think you need to say anything more about that.

Did anyone else notice that Walter was looking for Woodie?

I know this is not on topic with the character but wormwood should have a luner skin because he came from the moon and there are luner plants

I find it quite funny how i literally got a walter ad before this

Man he really is fearless, he has no hesitation with trespassing.

I've actually got a lot of love for Walter. The slingshot is incredibly useful but ammo isn't free, rocks are practically useless and it's far too easy to tear through a stack of rounds. Gold is easy to come by but it does rely on frequent pig king visits, marble trees are a pain to grow so you have to use the ammo sparingly. It would be good to see a bonus from eating specific "campfire foods" like berries and jerky. Trail Mix as a favourite food is a nice touch and the bonus hunger is handy, I find it's difficult to make a lot of it though. The portable tent roll is extremely underrated, food is almost never an issue early on so it's free health and sanity which Walter suffers from without armour, it also takes up a slot constantly so it has a cost.

Now this might just be my imagination but it felt to me like he also had the same campfire cook speed increase that Willow has.

I think I see what they were going for with this one. I love the don't starve series, but I'm absolute garbage at it. He might be klei's rendition of easy mode for total scrubs like me, just like the mime is built in hard mode for veterans.

Personally I would give smol woby a 2x3 storage space. Smaller than Chester's inventory and when hes big make the space a 4x3 storage space and maybe make wobys hunger drain while moving around and give woby the ability to sprint. Which if you only sprint for a day you risk woby turning back to his small regular self and dropping 2 rows of the items you may have stored in there

I can see Walter, Wigfrid and Wortox being a really good combo team

He is the extra op version of Wheeler.

One thing that’s also broken you can light up a torch for second in the dark and get away from the thing and you can just turn it back on so you can save so much durability

To be fair we could already do so, the advantage with Walter is that our sanity won't plummet.

i love that he is a fearless scout boy and i think its hilarious that he isnt scared of the constant/can use dark magic without being scared when even maxwell cant. (this doesent affect gameplay anyway i promise you will be more insane than most characters as walter when you actually need the sanity.

Well, Maxwell was once the king of the world, and has had his mind consumed by the shadow powers of the throne. And now, reduced to the status of a regular survivor, and facing all the dangers he once created, i think it makes sense for him to be afraid of it
