Just ordered their new Aero hitch today. Get the steel (less wear) with about the same weight of the aluminum and less moving parts. Also way cheaper, and still get the scale.

Crazy to think they keep upping Max towing capacity and have these type hitches, 3" receivers, and they all still hook up with a 1/2" steel hitch pin.

Good point and to me, this points to the likelihood that the 1/2" pin was originally over designed, possibly for reasons other than strength, such as handling and functionality. Plus for such a small item, the increased cost is negligible.

If you are going to do a direct comparison, I suggest using the same size hitch in each model. The weight limits are identical between same size models however what you communicated in your video may confuse some new to hitches. I bought the steel version in 2.5 in shank size recently. Just my preference.

I've had my weigh safe hitch on my 1/2 ton for about 3 years and it is awesome. Loading trailers is easy and takes all the guess work out. I know exactly how much my TT tongue weight is without WD. I had one issue with the hitch, the scale glass would fog up after a severe temperature change or after I washed my truck. I submitted a warrant claim with Weigh Safe and they took care of it no problem! I highly recommend this hitch, especially if you load equipment. This hitch will allow you to have your trailer perfectly level and had the perfect amount of tongue weight on your truck.

I don't know what brand it was but a weight-distributing travel trailer hitch I had almost 20 years ago had a solid shank. It was only 2" but that's a lot of steel. Of course, for all I know, that might be the norm for that type of hitch. I never owned another one.

  • @roundsm18

I wish they made a medium duty one for those of us who run pintles. I have a 650 service truck but sometimes it’s nice to know if I have to drop a trailer on one of the other guys to tow something heavier (yes, somehow I still shuttle equipment while running a shop). That being said, with the exception of a couple supervisors with F250s most of them are 350 dually or 450 so I don’t usually care too much as usually they’re local and it’s pretty flat.
