Don’t Miss This 1 Step When Insulating Your Garage Door

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a project many people can take on themselves. However, it's important to have a garage door technician like William from Door Pros verify your springs are sized for the weight of the insulation and door. My insulation added 26lbs which necessitated larger springs to safely balance the door.

I'm moving my studio space into the garage this summer and will be doing the same thing on a smaller scale luckily. Have to have the walls filled and also replace the 15amp outlets with 30amp and all the romex in between. At least the panel is in the same room.

That’s nice to have close access to the panel. Why the 30 amp outlets though?

Which brand panels did you use? Will be doing it in So. Az. 105 in the summer.

Does the sun shine on your garage door? I am in Phoenix, and find that sun shining on the door raises the temperature of the door 40 degrees above ambient, even in the winter. I have not measured it in the summer, but my garage gets terribly hot in the summer. When I used a thermal camera on the house at midnight, I found the garage doors to be a huge heat loss, much more than my single pane windows.

My House is north-north westfacing. In the winter my garage doors get zero sun. The summer is different. My rv bay gets a few hours in the afternoon of sun, but blocks the small garage to some degree. The panels get extremely hot. The insulation panels helped a lot. I measured the exterior in the afternoon sun and it was in the 140* range on the outside. Inside was closer to 105*.

😮Great tips! Important to be safe. Are you going to insulate by the windows?

I'm not planing on it currently. I did use the remaining scrap pieces to wrap the current windows though.

@@DrivingForwardBuilds What I wanted to know was not the garage door heat difference but the overall garage temperature. Do you recall how much the entire garage temperature went down by?

That’s a little tougher to quantify. I installed my wall insulation shortly after doing the doors. During the brief time before insulating the walls I’d say it was around a 10* difference.

Either you don't live in Satan's armpit like I do, or you don't work in your garage. This made a tremendous difference for me with my doors.

I believe they are just trim strips or retainer strips. I haven’t found them outside of the garage door installers though.
