I've watching Aquarium Co-Op for a long time and it's helped me get back into the hobby and has taught me a whole lot. Glad your there and teaching people how to take care of their fish. My most favorite is changing from carbon filters to the sponge. You taught that really great. I have been able to teach others about it too. God Bless and thanks.
Cory Thank you for all the knowledge and years of experience you share with all of us. You are truely a blessing to the hobby.
New to home fish keeping but studied fish biology/ecology in college and work with fish as a career. This channel has some of the best info that I've come across with easy to understand analogies and explanations. Recently got an air stone for my new tank and noticed the foaming on the surface, which caught my eye. Sure enough, ammonia. Thanks for the tip and I'll keep that in mind.
I have a young son and we just started our very first tank! These videos are so awesome and the most helpful content we have come across. You're awesome, thank you!!
I’ve been back in the hobby for almost two years, I have 5 tanks and more recently started using live plants. This video has been more insightful than any other I’ve seen so far! Great job and thank you for all the great information and keep it up
I've had a nasty set back in my fish hobbie. But, thanks to you, I'm calming down. I can do this!

Probably one of the most useful steams for someone new to the hobby. Just picked up a our first tank for my sons 4th birthday. Look at all the disasters I have to look forward to 😄 Thanks for sharing your experience Cory👍
You have no idea how valuable this video is as a resource. As someone who just set up his first betta tank and now is getting a 40 breeder, I have learned everything from you Cory. All the way in Columbus Ohio. I never knew fish keeping was so complex and fun!!!!!

Wow! You lost me after airstone , amonia blah blah blah
Wow...this is such an amazing video! Just in 30mins I've learned so many things I didn't know like blue green algae is bacterial (never had) only keep food about 1mth not the 3yrs it says it expires and that totally makes sense, stray electrical currents which is really scary thinking about my babies being shocked 24/7. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge with us!
i knew something was not right when all the cichlids in my tank were sitting together at the bottom of the tank and didn't bother to come up to the surface looking for food when i turned the light on. IT was 3am i was really tired, but THANKFULLY I did check the water chemistry. Turned out to be an ammonia spike, so yes, a 3am water change with my eyes mostly shut, but it saved their lives, so def worth it!!
Hello Cory, just wanted to say thank you so much for your input and your years of knowledge and experience with freshwater fish and aquariums. I am so much more knowledgeable about the freshwater aquarium hobby, and all that comes along with it because I have kept up with your videos. Thank you for your wealth of knowledge in this industry. Thanks from Albany Oregon.
Thank you Cory ... for your clear , concise and always humble and accurate teaching . I am not afraid ( of aquariums ) because I know you are out there !...

I just found your channel today and I've subscribed for the simple reason you've pronounced the name "Betta" properly. For many years now people who work in aquarium shops have been calling this fish a "Beta", pronounced like the Greek letter. I don't know why this annoys me so much, but it does. Your advice is spot on, thanks.

I'm not sure why it annoys you both so much. It's been pronounced Bayta for as long as I can remember lol
@voluntaryismistheanswer
3 жыл бұрын
@@cheers2023 long enough to be an accepted variant imo lol, backing up and saying 'bayta, wait no, bettah' is a lot more intrusive to the conversation than just forgetting and slipping into more colloquial dialect. The ones that get ME: it's Godeeeeva chocolate- call Belgium, see how they answer the phone!- the g in misogyny is a hard GREEK g, pronounce it!- as annoying as someone saying 'Jeeradelli chocolate', and insisting in Italian the g is soft (while you're internally screaming 'Not followed by an aitch!') and THERE IS NO ACCENT ON THE FINAL E IN FORTE. It's 'fort', and I have been known to consider proper usage as an informal IQ test. So if you've ever tittered the non word 'forTAY' and felt clever, 'bayta' popo, judged by your own standards, you may fall a little short. 😝 Motes in eyes and all that.

@@voluntaryismistheanswer Really? Because I always assume if someone mispronounced something it meant they have read it and haven't had anyone to speak with about it aloud.. I have never assumed someone was less intelligent for mispronounced words.

@@0walleye0 True! I learned English as an adult primarily by reading. I live in Denmark and rarely speak English, but I have a kindle so basically everything I read is in English. There are many words that I am unsure of how to pronounce correctly and I am certain there are also many words that I think I am pronouncing right, when in fact I don’t 🤷🏼♀️ It has nothing to do with my intelligence.
As a newbie to the hobby I have to say THANK YOU! I’ve watched a lot of your videos and learnt a lot

Yeah, the fish flakes going rancid, I knew about kibble, but didn't consider them (I don't use them often, just a junk food treat for guppies as often as I would let myself have a donut- wheat? Soy? Potatoes? If you want a lot of undigested dog doo in your back forty, feed grain kibble. If you want lots of undigested fish poop in your tank, feed flakes. Garbage in, garbage out).

I love your videos, they are so informative. I do have a question about guppies, I am at a loss what to do. I am in the UK and I can't get hold of general cure, I tried pimafix and melafix together as suggested and tried dosing my tank with salt, then changed 30% and tried an anti internal bacterial treatment but lost 4 of 6 guppies. Nitrite 0 nitrate 0 pH 6.5-6.8 gh 120 kh 40. I am gutted. Planted tank, there are other fish in there and they are all fine. Guppies presented with bloating and dropsy, other 2 that died opposite way, really skinny and signs of fin rot but melafix did nothing for them. Any suggestions from anyone appreciated. 2 left but 1 of them looks a little bloated also. I did try peas too... 😉

Gemma Triggs I’m having the same problem getting medications for my fish here in the uk since I moved from Florida where I could get anything I needed. I’m no expert but the fact you have zero nitrite is not good, if your tank cycled you should always have some nitrite, ideally less than 20ppm. For all I know I should have said nitrate instead of nitrite or I’ve got my parts per million wrong so just check it out. It’s the last part of the nitrogen cycle, It usually means your tank lacks beneficial bacteria and never fully cycled.
I always get good reminders when I wander into these streams. Plus, it beats watching the news!
Your videos are my go to for anything aquarium related information, huge thank you for all your help.
Hi Cory, So happy I found your videos and your online store. Wish I was closer to visit your brick and mortar store I would be there every weekend. From your tour videos looks like your shop and operation are "fish heaven"!. :-) I live in South Florida, you are always welcome (family included) to stay with us. I know that sounds weird but sorry I feel like I know ya. Or if you just need some local advice, I can help you. Sounds like from this video you are trying to plan to come to Florida to see our fish. I am an avid scuba diver and love the ocean but I only have freshwater planted tanks haha I participate in conservation events and Lionfish derbies to cull the very detrimental invasive species. I have placed a few orders on your shop and have always been pleased with the quality, speed, and care that goes into my orders. So a big HI from Florida to you, your family, and the rest of the Aquarium Co-op team!
Your stress example is amazing.. Never thought of it like that

Cory, thanks for making this video.Great info for newbies and seasoned aquarist...awhile ago I had saltwater reef tank and had a powerhead short out..well the fish were electrocuted....Very bad day, losing fish is like losing a friend(this may sound silly to some) but as for the corals, weirdly enough they were actually stimulated, grew and opened up like never before,I'm not crazy nor do I recommend anyone shock their tank but I think maybe someday studies will be done on electric current and the beneficial results...as for a great diatom filter,I use a filter sock and a powerhead, works great, same results using fiber fill in a hob filter
When I kept fish tanks, I utilized bottom feeders and MYACIN to combat many of my fish ailments. I did get BLUE GREEN ALGAE once or twice. Once when my tank was new and uncycled.
I watch these over and over while I’m working and always pick up new info!

Even though I've been in the hobby for 15+ years, and, been lucky with basic upkeep and care with all the fish I've had, after getting a new batch of fish in January, and, losing 2 green terrors, and,a blue acara in less than 2 weeks, and watching videos like yours and others, I,1: saw how stress and parameters (water flow, overfeeding, etc) affect fish, and,2: it made me be more diligent in my upkeep of the tank..,so, again, even though I been in the hobby for years, I'm always learning. Thanks, informative video.

I just had a new tank that has no fish and I am just cycling the water with plants and getting ready to add fish. However I felt weird out when I start seeing bubbles after a while telling me something seems wrong with the water but there's only plants. Until I saw this video and got my answer since I've added some pima and melafix into the water. Thank you.
For protein "slicks" I take my plastic measuring jug and just put the spout under the surface with the body into the water. Only the slick gets hoovered slowly into the jug.
Stumbled across this and just thought it was another how to video witch was the same as all all rest. But 1min into watching I knew it was going to be very interesting and knowledgeably and not like the common how to and what not to do video. Being a fish breeder for over a year now and fish keeper for over 2 years now. I learnt heaps from this and recommend this video to any fish keeper Wether your a beginner or expert. Great video man. You 100% got a follow from me and can't wait to check out all your other video.
I lost a betta and almost another due to bad food. I didn’t realize what was happening right away. I only switched my other betta to new food as a last resort and it really helped! Also, food size is a big thing to watch out for too. My other tanks have dwarf gourami, and they are pigs. They out eat everything else in the tank. So I have to mix smaller food in so they don’t over eat and bloat up.
