Sir i think nowdays current affairs are most important when start preparing i have figured out books and topics If any change is coming in the current regarding any topic for ex BBB is changed to FSIB I have noted it just in front of BBB so that whenever I revise i do not have to look for another place. Economy section and polity section i believe basics if clear than one should prepare with current and that even helps in revision for ex on 2nd Aug electoral bonds were covered, than nowdays elections of vp,cji is coming In fact now history is even covered in current affairs such as various revolts such as eka,sanyasi,paika so on Topics- such as inflation,bond and yields, BOP as we recieved highest fdi from Singapore So these topics are easily revised by me plus currents are even covered.

That knowledge gained during that upsc journey will stay with you forever. Part 2 of your statement is absolutely correct. There are many ways to serve society apart from this. But if you have gained enough knowledge from upsc preparation then you can serve society better as you would have developed a basic understanding of everything around you and multidimensional thinking.
