🔮 More about the series:
Portfolio in UX is the most important part of the process of finding a job. Your resume, courses, classes, bootcamps etc don't matter nearly as much as the portfolio. It's practically 99% of success. If your portfolio is good, then your chances of getting hired rise exponentially. In this course I share my tips, tricks and best practices on portfolios that work great. I also share the mistakes most junior designers make while creating their portfolio and how to quickly solve them. Wondering where to place your portfolio? How to send it in an email? Is dribbble or behance good enough? Should you make a dedicated website for your UX portfolio? These and many other questions are answered here :)

    Yeah we tested it on a large group of designers and the responses were like 30% higher. Then we tested it on some freelance clients and with a similar result. Before people click on a link to get out of the email client it’s good to show them something “interesting” so they’re compelled to click :) Of course it has to be readable (so they see exactly what the visual is about) and looking good :)

    Greetings, Malewicz! I recently found your channel and what can I say: the stuff you put out is tremendously helpful for me as a beginner. Can you help me understand one thing: when you are talking about 3-5 projects in a portfolio, how many pages of the said project should be there? Should it have like 10-15 screens each? I am asking this question, because I have this frustrating feeling (not an educated fact, just a feeling) that you have to do so many things to "impress" a recruiter and to do it with such quality, that you shouldn't apply for a junior position at this point (and I speak from salary stand point mostly). Because if you can make things to look so smooth and terrific in terms of UX/UI while applying as a junior, then isn't the just an illogical and, quite frankly, inadequate from a potential employer perspective to be this demanding? I might completely misunderstand things, because i don't have a commercial experience in this field though. Would be thanful for your answer. Cheers!

  • @MalewiczHype

    @MalewiczHype

    2 жыл бұрын

    Generally 3-5 projects with around 10 screens each is fine, some can have 3-5 screens too, but definitely not projects with 1 screen as you need to write a little bit more about the screens and with one there's not much to show. I made a course on creating those case studies this year that helped a lot of people fill the knowledge gaps and get the job :) You don't need to be smooth and terrific yet, it's more about a wholesome package - so the recruiters see that you know how to do some UI (that's well aligned and has good contrasts, typography) even if it's not beautiful yet, and you can write a case study about it.

    Hi! I focus on UI mostly because I believe it's an important part of designing. I need to look a bit more into this but there are definitely some obvious rules: 1. present your data in a beautiful way 2. make small research projects even as twitter surveys and analyse them - it can be for an existing products 3. But always treat your research as a visual story - just like a regular design portfolio, just use data and possibly some mockups to highlight how that data affects design

    Hiii, great video and greaaat tips! Some points are so obvious yet...😅 thanks! I do have a question tho: What if you are "just" a UX designer? not UI. How do I work around the eye-catching mockups? Also: I used to have the website, which got me a job, but recently I was wondering: If I am a UX designer who prototypes in Figma - would it make sense to have an interactive figma file and share the link? problem is that it won't be responsive so 🤞🏻 they won't open it on mobile, but I thought it could be an amazing way to show off the prototyping skills. thoughts?

  • @MalewiczHype

    @MalewiczHype

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Dominika, that's a good question - let's say your work ends on low-fidelity wireframes and flows, right? Well even if your lo-fi sketches are just pen and paper, I believe you can still present them well (made a course called how to present your work that also shows how to present data, how to "wrap" visually low fidelities and more) - so there's no need to always have beautiful UI's but what you have should have a beautiful presentation anyway :) As for your other question - yes, but as a link from within a case study only - people don't really like to be taken somewhere without making a conscious decision to do so, especially to a prototype they're not familiar with - it's a nice to have in the case study itself, or what you can do is record a part of your screen with the prototype as video of going through it and add that to the portfolio in a mockup (phone or computer) - that way you show the flow to people viewing the portfolio yet they don't have to do any clicking :)

  • @moragdominika

    @@MalewiczHype heej! thanks for the answer. it makes sense, I would loove to see some good examples of presenting wireframes in a beautiful way. I have 4 different platforms: app (personal project), BX software (professional), hybrid video game (professional), and a medical UXR project I’m currently working on. Will this seem a bit random for someone hiring?

    No, variety is good - especially if you worked on something real at least once :-)

    What about mocking up a marketing email about yourself with some nice UI- or would that get sent to spam?

    What if our cases studies do no involve final designs but more content related work like text, user flows, user tests? Some UX designers or Information architects don´t have to deliver UI, so what would be suitable in that case?

    Can we put the works we did for a company (as a freelancer) in the portfolio?

  • @MalewiczHype

    Generally yes unless you signed an NDA that prevents you from it - if unsure simply ask them, and sometimes people simply put it in and if the company asks them to remove it they do it ;)

    One thing that i really hate about this field is how haed it is to land job as fresher With zero prior experience you are still expected to spend months and months to create imaginary products/designs Unlike dev jobs for Freshers, you can still land job with just the theoretical concepts and not many projects
