I started MSCIN May 1st and I’m currently on the Educational Research course. If all goes as planned, I will finish at the end of July early August. So, I will have completed the degree in 3 months.

How many credits did you have when you started?

I'm in a situation where my husband and I relocated to a new state. I haven't been able to even get a job at a McDonald's. So I told my husband let me sign up to at least become an elementary school teacher. I know it's gonna be hard but I HAVE to finish this in 6 months at the very least. My husband looked at me like I lost my mind lol. But I found a girl who did it so that gives me hope. I have nothing else to do my back is against the wall and I gotta fight! I'm good at school I just need a nice quiet space. My husband is the only one working so I'll have the time. I told him I'll be using the good old crockpot so look for food there and leave me to work 🤣

I recently started working part time at a stop and shop in my home town and my parents keep talking to me about finding a career before I turn 26. I’m 23 years old now but I feel like I want to enroll at WGU to get a bachelors degree and a masters degree in library science to work at the library in my home town. It’s been very stressful for me and I hope I can be very focused and get this accomplished in about 6 months if I start enrolling

It's really not possible to do the Education Degree in a single term. This is a function of the required pre-scheduling of the in-person observations and the 16-weeks of student teaching. The earliest you'd be able to get the education degree is one year, and even then, you will need major support from the mentor and the scheduling team, as they'll have to agree to schedule you in the student teaching and stuff earlier than they normally would. You really have to convince them you will get the classes done, as they have to schedule this stuff before you get the 'required' classes.

I can tell you for a FACT that all US counselors, and teachers, HAVE to attempt to extend your stay at their university. Their plan is to keep as long as they can, and get to you to spend more money.

Not sure how fully accurate your fact is as it relates to WGU, in my opinion. My US experience is limited to WGU. WGU is the focus of my channel so that's what I'll comment on. Maybe you have other US counselor experiences or stats around your claim that you are welcome to share. I think counselors and advisors at the WGU are well aware that graduation rates are about 50% at the university and the acceleration rates a lot lower than that. Course Mentors/Advisors try to be realistic and probably know that the average person has to go above and beyond to accelerate. It's an arduous path for many who try it. Yes, WGU needs and strives to make money, so having every student accelerate isn't ideal. But they make a lot of money from simply having students enroll who are compelled by the acceleration option. This is so attractive to people that WGU has about 150,000 students from the US mostly. That's a HUGE number. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2019 WGU had the highest enrollment in the entire country as a degree-granting institution (it should still be the highest). Most universities don't allow for acceleration and competency-based education the way WGU does it. Again, acceleration becomes extremely attractive to many but not necessarily doable for all because of various reasons (life circumstances, mediocre to low motivation and interest levels, lack of academic competence prior to starting, unrefined study strategies, lack of support, etc.) Advisors and counselors try to be realistic about this. They understand the appeal but they also understand the challenge and rigor very well. BUT, in any case, that shouldn't stop them from being supportive of prospective and current students who aim to go on a mission to accelerate. What matters a lot to schools is their graduation rates. This is what is advertised to the public and a key performance indicator to determine institutional success. This is what the public cares about and, therefore, what schools care about because the rates reflects reputation and, in turn, profitability. Good graduation rates means good reputation which means more student enrollment and therefore more money. What the counselors and advisors are most concerned about it making sure students get through their program and within a reasonable amount of time.

I started July 1st, I already completed my scheduled first term's worth of classes.

Thank you for your valuable insight! I am currently "shopping" around for online schools to pursue IT/Computer Science degree & WGU is in my top 3. Your recommendations are definitely useful to put into practice for online learning.

@leeLee-nh1vv Hey. It's going pretty good thus far. I've completed 2 classes within a week. I'm on my third. Will hopefully take the exam soon.

I want to be a librarian and I feel very encouraged to apply for education and experience to get into the the librarian field at WGU so I can get a bachelors and masters degree in months!

It's all down to how much you already know and how much work you can put into it time-wise. Someone who lives and breathes the degree for two months, there is no reason they can't do it. It's all a function of the time available to do it in.

I was just about to concede to the “fact” that the Master’s in Special Education Teaching program couldn’t be done in 6 months, until I searched and searched and came across your video. Another video said that it had to be done in 7 months minimum due to the student teaching and observations portion; is this not the case?

It took me almost 1 term just to get out of algebra. There’s no way I could do a degree in 6 months. Lol.

Take the time you need right. Meaning, go on that the pace that you want and need to go at :) Some students, like myself, had a lot of background in a degree area prior to starting so acceleration in 1 term made sense.

There’s a guy on yt that finished his masters in cybersecurity in 12 days! It’s very possible to accelerate

Ahh this is great. Im starting in the BSDMDA program in August and really want to get it done within 6 months. I'm starting off with 28 credits so I'm hoping it gives me a headstart

Sorry to hear about the less than ideal mentor situation. That's no fun. I have heard of other students switching mentors to get a better experience. Remember, you are paying a lot of money for your education, so make the most of it by speaking up for what you need/want. If that's a different mentor, I'd investigate that option. Or, have an open, candid conversation with them and explaining the type of support you need from them in order to foster a positive working alliance. If that doesn't work, again, look into the switching option :)

My housemate, who has a 3 masters degrees and went to a prestigious school tole me there is no way to get a Bachelors in six months it's a scam. I showed him some information nothing will change his mind.

Sounds like some serious cognitive dissonance in trying to justify spending all that time and money through a brick and mortar

Some people don't know how to offer support fully, which is unfortunate right. I found it ironic that even certain WGU staff were putting up barriers because of their reservations. But don't let that stop you. Listen to the people who get your goal and mission. I had one instructor say "keep on trucking, you've got this", which was so simple but effective. I repeated it to myself over and over again afterwards. It really is one step at time with WGU. Best of luck starting August!

I feel like with preclinical experience and demonstration teaching it's going to force me into two terms unless i can complete like 100 credits in 2-3 months. I really want to be on the job market to teach high school by next August though

Hi! Nice vid btw! I appreciate your experiences and input on being as a student in WGU. However what do you think about WGU for students that just graduate from high school? I've been hearing that people just don't recommend it at all because you NEED work expierence (based off the degree you apply to) to get through these courses. I'm planning on applying for a BA cyber security degree, however hearing that people just don't reccomend applying to this school without work expierence is kind of demotivating me to attend. I would really appreciate it if I got input on this, and it would help me be more comfortable on deciding on other options besides WGU. Thanks!!

Thanks for the comment! I think online self-directed studies is more of a personality and self-discipline thing rather than a experience base thing. It all comes down to how well you can learn on your own with some supports (program mentor and instructors). There are many seasoned professionals who would dislike and do poorly at WGU but also lots of young adults who would excel at this structure. You just have to have an honest conversation with yourself and ask “am I going be able to be disciplined enough to learn on my own and set and stick to deadlines?” The fantasy about accelerating a degree is a lot different than the reality. But many people are naturally self-directed irrespective of age or life experience. Overtime, people get good at self-direction and I think a lot of working professionals get good at this. Maybe this where the statement around needing work experience emerges from. Not all statements are fact though. Hope that helps

Hi Justin, I'm deciding between WGU and Capella. When I spoke with a counselor from Capella he told me that he had a student complete 3 years with of work in 5 or 6 months to earn his bachelor's degree. I something like this possible at WGU?

It is possible yes! There are some people who have done a WGU bachelor's in one term. It really comes down to how proficient you are at time management, your general level of intelligence, your drive and dedication, your ability to work through setbacks and challenges, how much other stuff is going on in your life, your bank of past knowledge in the area(s) of study, and your overall interest and engagement in what you are studying. It would require routine and structure to get it done in that time I'm assuming. I was able to finish my master's in 5.5 months mainly because I already had background knowledge in my area of study, am good at writing quickly and clearly, and I can scan and process info fast. I'm also stubborn with myself and I forced myself to do it even when I didn't want too.
