I just discovered your channel because I decided I wanted to learn how painting, and I got very relaxing watching your videos. This one so far it’s my favorite because it remember me how perfectionism has been ruining my health in the last couple of years. Actually I’ve been drawing for 10 yrs and I stopped doing it for 3 years bc of my studies and life , I felt that I forgot how to paint and draw , after two yrs of going back I finally found my passion and happiness while doing what I love rather than make ppl screaming of how much it’s beautiful or the opposite. I realised that it’s my choice to do what I love and to don’t care for others , to do what I want even if I’m busy bc that’s my passion and the reason why I’m still alive ♥️ you gave me such a great energy to go back and that was the fist video I saw in yr channel since then I love seeing your videos . U gave me such a great energy to keep going , I want to thank u 🤍🫂 I’m so sorry for my English but I’m Arabic so I’m non English native speaker ✨

Somehow KZread recommended your video to me. I started watching this video and find it very relaxing. I have been in art for 40 years and I am still exploring new things every time I paint. As you grow as an artist you will start to see that everything you paint will become a reflection of yourself. It will make your paintings mean more and more to you. I think your painting came out pretty perfect at the end. Every painting is a journey. More struggles you encounter during the painting process makes it more rewarding at the end. Good luck to you and your young artist career. I hope you will continue to share your videos.

No matter how accomplished or experienced, everyone gets scared and has their insecurities with their art. i needed this wow. I've been struggling with perfectionism and low self esteem, couldn't finish most of my paintings cuz when i saw there was a mistake i couldn't handle it. realized it was limiting my creativity and limiting myself from growing. thank you!

Thank you for sharing your process and thought process! I can so relate! Some weeks I feel like I spend more time thinking about painting than actually painting, because I'm waiting for the conditions to be *just right*. But in reality, it's because I'm afraid to start because I'm afraid of making mistakes or making something that I just don't like. But sometimes you just have to buckle down and do it, and I find that when I actually do start painting, it is almost always a positive experience, if not perfect! Beautiful painting, congrats!

So inspiring! I painted all throughout my teenage and early adult life. I went to art school and completely lost inspiration. I have been in a 3yr slump. I just came across your video as I was working on a necklace commission and it really helped me through in the most perfect of timing. Thank you so much for another insightful video! I have a 30x40 canvas on an easel right now in my bedroom that I am procrastinating on. It will be the largest painting that I’ve ever done, but I haven’t found the courage to get started. Interestingly, my subject is similar to the one in your video, a still life with a floral bouquet as the main subject. It’s just for my daughter’s bedroom, so no real pressure. However, even after putting a digital composition together, I am terrified to get started. Your video is giving me courage, and your final piece was phenomenal! I’m so glad that you changed your career trajectory. You have a gift for art and video production, and it’s inspiring!

Hi! in these last difficult years, painting has been the only thing that makes me relax for a while. I've always had issues with self-criticism and it has spoiled my only moments of comfort. Watching your videos has done me a lot of good, and even though I don't fully understand everything (i speak portuguese), I can understand enough to feel very comfortable. Thank you so much for sharing the imperfect sides, they are essential to feel genuinely welcomed and capable since i used to spend time seeing perfect idealized art on most of the internet plataforms.

I had gotten recommended the video just before your most recent video "Most valuable thing I learned about art" that I saved for later when I got recommended that one. Your videos are so good and calming I'm using going through and rewatching them all as "destress" mental resting points between a writing commission I'm working on. Great video! I love your message about perfectionism. I can relate to organizing your room, getting the right materials and just starting the painting in a way that hopefully things will go perfect! But, what I have also discovered is that I can only aim for perfection, which is phantom thing. I love that big green chunky brush on the canvas. Beautiful work!

One tip is to treat the background negative space as just important as the positive space subject matter. That will help solidify the composition and add some lighting. Excellent work on capturing the colors and vibrancy!

Ugggh, i can relate so much. Still pending on my 1st commissioned painting, I'm still struggling with perfectionism , anxiety and lack of self confidence . Yes, i felt intimidated so I did a few practice and as of now, I'm doing it first in a smaller canvas so I can better see the composition. Doing this made me feel less anxious. Hoping to do it better in the final piece.

This was so soothing to look at..

When I had COVID I watched this video and it made me feel better about messing up in art and I repainted the flowers that you did in this video and it made me accept that mistakes are ok in art😊

I can relate to what you have shared, the fear of starting to paint on a white canvas. It's so scary for some reason. You don't even know how it'll look like in the end. Sometimes you might even think you just ruined a canvas. But, what I have learned about painting is you should pause, feel and try again.. I always find myself, feeling like messing it up but in the end I always find a way to fix it. By the way, I loved the final look of your painting. Looking forward to see more. 😊

It was fun watching you resist your perfectionist tendencies and just start. Both your process and your end result were amazing,...especially since you seemed to be composing a bouquet from your rough sketch and not using a reference. When you were thinking about what it might need, I was thinking "sky holes", which is what Roger Bansemer calls holes he paints into his trees in his plein air landscapes, and later you were adding them,...so I was right!! The botanical inspo field trip was a great idea for both a break and for fresh ideas. You ended up with a nice balance of colors and textures as well as a pleasing floral arrangement. Lucky client!! :)

You are right about perfectionism and I too struggle with wanting my art to be perfect and it more often than not tends to hinder me. You have to learn to just go with the flow (pun intended lol). Let the brush,pencil, pen, whatever your tool of choice is, take you where your imagination leads you and don't slow yourself down along the way by trying to make out every single little detail just let it all happen organically and have fun with it. Art is definitely a lifelong learning process and its very much ok NOT to be perfect for perfection is achieved through the imperfect. Thank you ashleigh for sharing your awesomely beautiful work, Vangough would be very proud of you. Also might I add, that I loved the nature intermission portion of your vlog...
