Hiya. King main here :3 just wanted to contribute by adding to this The jaguar step throw is wild, leads into muscle buster at the end and is currently King's most damaging throw, more than RDC. If the King player is on pad (like me), they can bind Ki charge to a button (like me) and go into that grab from jaguar step, spam Ki Charge (L3 for me), and get 116 damage. Best counterplay for this is to simply mash 1 if you see the King spamming this on you. Same for the reverse arm slam grabs. If they're spamming ki charge, spamming 1 will get you out of the chain. Now, experienced King players will, as Phi mentioned, will know mixups for this. For instance, I never go for RDC, I just end with dragon sleeper. I can mash out L3 at the end of the chain to guarantee it, I've never even practiced the input for it before in my life, but I can guarantee dragon sleeper every time I see them break my RDC. Same for Kings Bridge, if I see you break it, I'm doing the sharpshooter instead because it does more damage than STF. Another thing, with my back at the wall, I don't ever go for giant swing. It's so easily telegraphed. You'll know what it looks like at lower ranks especially (hi, orange rank here) when the King player CHOOSES to play with their back at the wall. Be cautious here. The King can also just opt for a Hangman's throw, which is a 1+2 break, and go into a Shining Torpedo for 51 damage. 55 if they blue spark it. Also, if the King is literally refusing to play neutral and is only going for throws, just duck him and punish. But again, beware, every situation you could think of where King might want to throw you or it might look like he's about to go for a throw, he can combo you with a mid launcher instead if he calls you out on your ducking. For my King mains. Jaguar step 2 into pedigree to go into heat, or d1+3 to floor break and combo. crouch dash into while standing 1+2, then f1+2 for a big combo. And make sure you can spark your ISW and giant swing on command because you can use those to get running power bomb enders on combos (ISW) and floor break enders (GS) for more damage. Also, random fun fact, King's heat smash is the most damaging in the game and it's not even close, dealing 64 damage, with Jin's coming second at only 57. King's heat smash can also be used in combos and can floor break. If you heat smash on a floor break stage and then spark your giant swing input, it does 93 damage. For a 3 hit combo. Half their health. Guys, watch out for King. Considering how much they've buffed throws in general on Tekken 8, King is kind of... in a spot right now.

There used to be a throw breaker app on the Play store/Apple store that would have some GIF's of Tekken 7 King, King, Jack and a few other characters doing throws and you had to press if it was a 1,2 or 1+2 grab, and if you got it right you got a gif of you correctly breaking it. Was released around like 2019/2020 and honestly, I think it was one of the most helpful things that I have ever seen. Great content and glad people are learning throw escapes and breaks. Thank you so much for this video! I didn’t even own the game yet when I started this. I kept seeing how king charges into a throw and throw combos. Your explanation is incredible! I finally got the game a few days ago and I dodged that charge throw and the King was just standing there for a solid second! I punished in response. He also froze when his throw was interrupted for a second and I punished him for it. I managed to win really easily after those instances. 🎉

You can plink 2,1 buffer 1+2 if your really fast at it and see the throw coming. It works now, the break window must be larger in 8. That armored flex move also cancels any armor break stun, learned that one the hard way.

Damn man! That's some real good material in terms of tutorial. I'm gonna start your break grab training a little bit everyday. But now talking about King... even you explaining in depth how they work and how to avoid I can't believe that some part of it is literally luck based😢

Idk if youre planning on it but I really think a match up series by you would pop off. As someone from anime fighters who is spoiled by the dustloop wiki and other resources, its really frustrating in tekken to not have detailed resources for this kind of stuff. If you had something that went over important moves to punish or your usual detailed neutral breakdowns for beating different characters I think itd be dope.

  • @Reldan

I would note that with Giant Swing being the only 10f throw and jabs being +1 on block, you cannot jab King back of you block his standing jab or you're going to get CH thrown. You need to crouch or backdash or do a move that crouches throws. GS catches jumps so you can't jump it.
