You have a new sub today, and this is a cracking tutorial for Outdoor active, full of information. You have now made my use of the Pro (not Pro+) version, which I look forward to using with a little more confidence. Castleton is a place I've ventured to a few time when I lived in Chesterfield, now North Devon. Thank you.

Glad you found it useful. It's a great app and I use it all the time. Thanks for subscribing. Any questions about outdoor active let me know.

Well I must say Stu, I didn't think I would learn anything. How wrong was I. I use OS Maps and bought the subscription on a Black Friday sale. I thought I had to have data on, doh!!! Plus the Naismith's rule. I hadn't realised you can personalise it. I've just been plotting the map and guessing how long it will take me. I've now set it to 1.8mph which is always my average speed. So I now know I can switch data and everything off and just keep GPS on. So thank you. I always take my map & compass as a backup but prefer the online phone version. I take a powerbank with SOS mode too, call it paranoia, but it can only help. I always send Amanda, my wife, a copy of my route, direction of travel, start/finish time then tell her if no contact 2hrs after expected end then to call in the MRT. Overkill maybe, but I also give her description of all clothing. I have made the mistake, once, only once, of not download my route before I go. Excellent video, very informative, thanks for sharing. I found it very helpful with a capital V. Thanks again.

Glad it was of use. I do exactly the same as you and send my route to my better half and also carry a map and compass as back up.

Chris I am trying a new app put over the next couple of weeks called Hikker. Initially looks quite good so I'll do a video on that before you look at the outdoor active one

My biggest problem using Outdoor active on an android phone is: When I am recording a hillwalking track and I check my phone. If I accidentally touch the 'back' button the track that took me two hours dissappears never to return. It should have a dialog box that asks you 'Are you shure that you want to exit this track?'

This was helpful. However, i have yet to find any help anywhere which actually shows how to reverse a plan you have made? Ive seen written instructions which say 'Click on Reverse' - but I've never seen any such thing in any menu!?

Hi the only way to reverse route is on the Web version and not the app. When you plan a route, in the window on the left hand side that lists the points there is an option to press reverse (at the bottom of the window) and it will change the plan accordingly. How that helps
