Don’t Get Intimidated When Diluting Meguiar’s Professional Detailing Products - Shop Talk

In this episode of Shop Talk, Mike Stoops - Global Training Specialist, goes into how to properly dilute Meguiar’s professional “Detailer” line of products.
Meguiar’s D101 All Purpose Cleaner an excellent concentrated detailing product that can be diluted from 10:1 for light cleaning up to 4:1 for heavier cleaning.
What are we talking about when we say; 10:1, 4:1, or 1:1? Regardless of the volume being used, 10:1, for example, means 10 parts water to 1 part chemical. The first number refers to water while the second refers to the chemical. When diluting, add the water first followed by the chemical or product being used. If you are doing a 32-ounce fill, we have secondary bottles for many of our products to help make diluting them an easier process.
What do you do if you don’t have one of our secondary bottles? You can use a kitchen measuring cup, and then you’ll need to do a little math. There’s enough room in our secondary bottles so we can fill up to 33-ounces. If we’re diluting 10 parts water to 1 part chemical we’ll end up with 11 parts total. In this case, we’ll divide 33- ounces by 11 giving us 3 ounces per part. So, you would fill water to the 3-ounce mark 10 times followed by 3-ounces of product 1 time, you’ll have 33 ounces at a 10:1 dilution ratio.
With our M799 Pro Hybrid Ceramic Bead Booster, there is the option to dilute at 1:3, which can appear confusing since the first number is smaller than the second. To dilute, the first part is still water and the second is the product. It’s just is a very light dilution of the product with M799.
There are a lot of Meguiar’s detailing products out there. However, are currently making some of our most popular professional “Detailer” products in a ready-to-use format, so you don’t have to dilute. This is the perfect way to get introduced to our professional detailing products in a pre-diluted, ready to use format.
